Avs Sign Williams, Fritsche

Fritsche's rights were set to expire on Friday. Williams getting signed was a no doubter.

Yup, I'd expect he'll be with LEM next year. He could have spent an OA year with Belleville, but he's ready for the AHL based on his improved performance last season.

Glad to see Fritsche get signed. Until his illness at Ohio State he looked like he could be a solid second line player. He may never reach that potential, but I'm happy to see the Avs give him a chance. I'm sure he'll be loved by the Monster fans being a native of Ohio.

This is great news. I didn't expect Fritsche to be signed. I want to see what he can do if he's ever properly recovered from his illness. Even if he's only in the echl this year. One step at a time for him.

Fritsche is from the Cleveland area (Parma). He should no doubt be a fan favorite there and he gets a chance to develop and maybe make it to the NHL.

Glad to see Williams signed. He's a good looking prospect.

It's unfortunate that Tom's brother, Dan, got traded to the NYR.

Hi Jori

I see Williams got inked finally and no real surprise. Is Lake Erie getting crowded for D yet.

Monty is still out there and wondering if he gets signed anytime soon. Starting to think a OA season might be in his future.

Potential defensemen for Lake Erie:

Vernace
Macias
McKenzie
Campbell
O'Neill
Peltier
Williams
Cumiskey

Cumiskey could potentially win a spot with the big club and one or two of these defensemen could be with Johnstown. I could see one more defenseman brought in.

Outside chance Stephen Margeson or Brandon Straub earn an AHL deal. I'm not quite sure how LEM felt about Straub, but I believe they were pleased with Margeson. Who knows.

They let Durand walk. He really fell hard towards the end of juniors.

The Avs relinquished Lynch's rights the summer following his draft year. Durand regressed and wasn't signed to a contract before the the June 1, 2007 deadline. Seven of the nine 2005 draftees remain in the system, five have NHL contracts. Mercier is due next year. Stoa took a medical red shirt and has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining, but if he has a strong season, I can see him signing next summer.
