Ill send Holik back. In 3 years when we are finally beginning our climb to respectability he would either be gone or probably less effective.

I would send them Holik for Parise and a real defensive prospect or 1st round pick. I dont think this is too much to ask. Bobby fits them perfectly. We know it and they know it. Nolan went for a 1st and top prospect last year, and I believe Holik would be much more important to NJ then Nolan could be to Toronto. If NJ wants to stand up to the Philly's and Senators then they need something else and Bobby could give it to them.

i was thinking the same thing but parise is a lot to ask for.

holik + 3rd pick for parise + david hale
that IS assuming they really want him back.

not a chance....

Lou won't get Holik or Sykora back. Both whom I would love to see back in Jersey. Holik makes too much money, and the Rangers won't pay 1/2 his salary just to see him win another cup in N.J. Holik could go to a Colorado or Detroit.

But just to make things interesting.

Jeff Friesen and our 2nd for Holik and the Rangers pay 1/3 of his salary.

We are not getting anything remotely close to parise or hale for Holik. First off, Lou will not take him back. Secondly, you are not getting an organizations top prospect(s) for the 9 millon man, even if we eat salary.

What are you crazy, you'll be lucky to get David Hale, & J.P. Parise..........Not a chance in hell Zack is traded away, especially the Rangers....

I'd make a deal like

NYR Get: Ahonen, Hale, Brylin, & 1st Rounder
NJ Gets: Holik, & P. Healey

WHY:
------
For the Rangers: They get a future # 1 in Ahonen, because we as Devils know he will never crack the lineup with Marty here. Also a future #2 or #3 defenseman, and also Brylin who would add leadership, and hard work to a Rangers lineup desperately seeking that.

For the Devils: Getting a Big centerin the middle to go against the likes of Sundin, Primeau, Bonk, etc. and a young guy in Healey who could provide depth.

But Bobby Holik will never be coming back unless a third team is involved, but hey if a deal is right why not, who says you cant trade with Rangers-Devils.....Is it a law!

Not a bit of substance anywhere near that story.

Holik was dumbstruck with the notion; Brooks himself admits it! For pity's sake, Larry, can't you come up with a better trade rumor at this time of year?

There is no chance we can get much value for Holik and his bloated contract. I would send him back for a bag of pucks at this point if just only for the financial burden this erases!

That's gotta be the most ridiculous story of the season. And Brooks wonders why people mock his credability.

first of all it's a larry brooks story...

second of all, this is the most disturbing thing in it: " Greg de Vries was fined $1,000 by the league for reaching over the bench and grabbing Mariusz Czerkawski's jersey during the Thursday night fight that took place at the final buzzer."

did i miss reading something about cairns and asham getting suspended, or is this the only fallout from the game?

Different situation. The Caps needed to dump salary, the Rangers don't.

i'm not even sure if parise would be a good idea. i remember some people talking about parise in the WJ's...that he only did well against the bad teams, and didnt do much against russia or canada.

dawes did well agaisnt everyone.

yeah, but they'll pay him 8.5 at least that's what their (and dallas') contract offer was when he signed. pay half of his salary if it makes them happy.

parise + hale for holik + 3rd + cash is a fair deal. throw in a healy or larose type if you need to top it off.
HOWEVER given devils history, it's not a deal that Lou would likely make.
like i said, it all depends on if Lou really wants his big man back. and how much he wants him back.

The Jagr trade set the market value for a 6 million dollar man. If the Devils were willing to add 6 million in salary they would have acquired Jagr not Holik. Hale would have been a much better return then Anson Carter.

After making the Caps pay half of Jagr's salary, what makes you guys so sure the Dolans would be so willing to pay half of Holiks?

The Jagr trade did not set the market because it was a financial transaction not a hockey trade. Money over talent. The Rangers would never need to make such a deal. Obviously it was not a willingness to add 6M in salary (although it became that way). The Devils could not afford to so to compare a hypothetical return with what the Caps actually got is pointless.

Any Holik trade would be financial transaction as well. Holik would clear waivers at this point, and The Rangers will not be cup contenders during the tenure of his current contract, therefore it is pointless to pay him $27 million more dollars.

If Sather insists on a large return, he won't get it from the Devils, he might get it from the Leafs, or even more likely, The Flyers because of the Primeau/JR situation. (See Oats for Oulette, 1st, 2nd, 3rd) In any case NYR will be eating a large portion of the contract. If I was Lou I wouldn't trade Hale for Holik, forget about Parise. I would be offering pieces like Tuomas Pihlman (good 2nd line powerforward prospect) 2nd round draft picks, things like that.

If I was Sather, I would be shopping Holik to Philly like crazy. Clarke is known to overpay in situations like this, and even though they don't have a whole lot left in the farm, they still have the rights to Carter, Richards, and Seidenburg, I think that if Sather twisted Clarke's arm, and maybe kicked in Lundmark, he might be able to steal away Carter without paying too much of Holik's contract.
