I was watching the game tonight between Minnesota and Vancouver and during the first intermission John Garrett reported that the Canucks are interested in acquiring Brian Leetch from N.Y. Garrett thinks Leetch would a good fit in Vancouver, i.e.:
Who agrees or disagrees?
If Leetch is made available any team will have to pay a steep price. The Rangers don't "need" to dump salary (unlike Washington with Gonchar) so they'll be looking for something substantial in order to justify trading a fan favorite like Leetch.
Ight. I'll give it a try and put up a real proposal.
How about this:
to the New York Rangers: R.J. Umberger, Kirill Koltsov, Fedor Federov and a 1st round pick in 2004
to the Vancouver Canucks: Alexei Kovalev & Brian Leetch
I'm sure, that Canucks fans may not like Koltsov leaving the organization, but IMO Leetch and Kovalev have a good value.
Leetch maybe, but Kovalev so-so.
That package (R.J. Umberger, Kirill Koltsov, Fedor Federov and a 1st) would be bloody close to fetching O'Neil and and Boughner. The NYR package might be better but having O'Neil & Boughner would be cheaper financially and O'Neil wouldn't be a UFA. If I'm giving up that much future I want some long term benefit.
They will get better offers. Even on the Bondra scale, which is what Leetch will fetch, its a 2nd (ie Umberger) and good prospect. I'd think Koltsov, 1st and Umberger would be close for both (a first being worth about 2 seconds). But then again that is getting close to O'Neil country.
are u joking? Leetch is like 63 and Kovalev has been underachieving the last couple of years... I say give umberger/king and a first for both (assuming canucks pick up salaries)
King has done almost nothing since that one month, i could see umberger AND king along with a 1st but we could easily get a prospect of kings caliber and a 2nd for leetch and i'm sure kovalev would command a return even better/
