Canucks interested in Leetch???

I was watching the game tonight between Minnesota and Vancouver and during the first intermission John Garrett reported that the Canucks are interested in acquiring Brian Leetch from N.Y. Garrett thinks Leetch would a good fit in Vancouver, i.e.:
Leetch/Ohlund
Jovo/Salo
Malik/Sopel
Allen, Grenier
Who agrees or disagrees?

Allen would figure into the lineup before Malik.

If Leetch is made available any team will have to pay a steep price. The Rangers don't "need" to dump salary (unlike Washington with Gonchar) so they'll be looking for something substantial in order to justify trading a fan favorite like Leetch.

Why not just get Gonchar?

Why not get the complete package: Leetch and Kovalev?

Here Here!!

Trade Umberger, and a 1st for both. The Canucks would get compemsatory picks if or when they sign elsewhere.

The more I see this the more logic this makes.

Except for the fact that NY probably wouldn't go for that and that Burke has said repeatedly that he isn't trading Umberger.

Ight. I'll give it a try and put up a real proposal.

How about this:

to the New York Rangers: R.J. Umberger, Kirill Koltsov, Fedor Federov and a 1st round pick in 2004

to the Vancouver Canucks: Alexei Kovalev & Brian Leetch

I'm sure, that Canucks fans may not like Koltsov leaving the organization, but IMO Leetch and Kovalev have a good value.

Why would the Rangers do this?

Leetch maybe, but Kovalev so-so.

That package (R.J. Umberger, Kirill Koltsov, Fedor Federov and a 1st) would be bloody close to fetching O'Neil and and Boughner. The NYR package might be better but having O'Neil & Boughner would be cheaper financially and O'Neil wouldn't be a UFA. If I'm giving up that much future I want some long term benefit.

They will get better offers. Even on the Bondra scale, which is what Leetch will fetch, its a 2nd (ie Umberger) and good prospect. I'd think Koltsov, 1st and Umberger would be close for both (a first being worth about 2 seconds). But then again that is getting close to O'Neil country.

How about this:

To Canucks

Brian Leetch(half of next year's salary paid by Rangers)
Alexei Kovalev

To Rangers

Brent Sopel
Artem Chubarov
1st round pick in '05

No thanks, we'll take Kovalev to Detroit and Leetch to Dallas where we can get prospects and a 1st.

What if Sopel was switched to Koltsov?

It would depend, I mean arguably we could get a koltsov type prospect and a 2nd for kovalev maybe a first, i'm not a big fan of chubarov, perhaps switch him with a 3rd and fedorov and we're talking

To Van:
Leetch (1/2 next year paid)
Kovalev

To Nyr:
1st
3rd
Feds
Koltsov

are u joking? Leetch is like 63 and Kovalev has been underachieving the last couple of years... I say give umberger/king and a first for both (assuming canucks pick up salaries)

King has done almost nothing since that one month, i could see umberger AND king along with a 1st but we could easily get a prospect of kings caliber and a 2nd for leetch and i'm sure kovalev would command a return even better/

Leetch

I find this notion quite un-Burke-like. Or should I say un-McCaw-like.

I think the Canucks would have to send a salary back though, that's why I included Chubarov. Instead of the 3rd, how about Marek Malik?

1st round pick
Fed Fed

I'd do it.

Naslund-Morrison-Bertuzzi
D.Sedin-H.Sedin-Kovalev
Cooke-Chubarov-Linden
Ruutu-Lindgren?-Keane/May

Ohlund-Sopel
Allen-Jovanovski
Leetch-Salo

I say Leetch would play with Ohlund and Jovo with Salo and Allen with Sopel and then you have Baumgartner as a seventh guy.

Oh great.

Now that Sullivan, Bondra and Zhamnov are gone... it's Leetch and Kovalev to the Canucks now.
