Habs-Leafs is the most storied one. But more recently Flyers-Pens has been coming to be very exciting.

Because of Burke and Lowe, Edmonton Anaheim has become a rivalry.

How aren't the Sens and Leafs not gettin any votes? They played arguably game of the year last year on March 22, when the Leafs won 5-4. Then Bell hits Alfie the game after that... there could be some payback this year! There's some other good ones too, like te Pens and flyers, Habs and Sens, Oil and Flames, Canucks and Oil.

I'm not even sure every Flyer fan considers Pittsburgh to be their chief rival.

Oilers-Flames. This rivalry is underexposed to the east coast though.

All of you guys are saying oh well it must be this rivalry because its boiling again, if its boiling again that means it was dead at one point. The Islanders Rangers rivalry is a rivalry that NEVER dies down. The Islanders may have a crappy team yet the rivalry remains just as intense as always. Being in the same state you have NY vs NY cross town rivals which makes it that much better. The hatred between the two teams is unbelievable and if you have never watched an Islanders Rangers game I strongly suggest you find time to watch one.

I went with Bruins/Habs.

I'm one of the people that think that games in the playoffs create a hatred & rivarly, and the two teams ha've met 31 times in the playoffs, with 4 of the last 6 going the full 7 games.

Honorable mention go to Leafs/Habs, Rags/Isles, & Flames/Oilers, but Boston v. Montreal gets the nod from me.

I was torn between Bruins-Habs, Oilers-Flames, and Wings-Avs.

My vote is for the Wings-Avs.

My vote is Boston / Montreal. No two teams have met more in the playoffs and although Montreal has won most of those series, they're usually long, hard, close series.

All time it has to be Calgary and Edmonton or Toronto/Montreal. I want to vote as a homer for the BOA but the hatred between Montreal and Boston is unreal. A playoff series really goes a long way into ensuring that (the reason why I think Canuck fans hate Calgary more than Edmonton). Those are 3 the top 3.

Once LA gets competitive and into the playoffs, the Ducks-Kings rivalry will be bloody. Each respective fanbase hates each other. And the players don't like one another that much, either, especially given the recent Brown-Selanne incident at the WC (assuming Selanne returns to the Ducks).

A competitive Ducks-Kings rivalry will be monstrous for the NHL, as well. It's on the horizon. Just wait and watch. Things are going to get really nasty once these two teams meet in the playoffs.

And the Ivanans-Parros fights are just great.

Yeah, I think that's the truth. Although, I can see the rivalry growing in the near future.

The Pens don't really have a true rival. There's Pittsburgh/Washington, but the Pens always seem to win, with Washington finding some hilarious way to blow it. Every spring in the 90's it seemed like it was "ho hum, time to beat the Caps again."

Most Pens fans don't care for the Rangers much, but New York hasn't been able to beat the Pens when it matters.

The Isles have given the Pens some absolutely heartbreaking defeats, but it's hard to hate them when they're run so poorly. Although they do seem to collect guys I loathe, like Sutton, Witt, Hill, etc.

The Devils are hated by some Pens fans, I think mainly because they've consistantly been so good. I always had a soft spot for them because of Brodeur and Stevens, personally.

So because they met more times makes the rivalry better?

It isnt just that. It's what the games have meant, what they've been about, the blood, the brawls, the hate..the history is greater than anything the Leafs rivalry has had with the Habs.

Sure the Leafs are a big time rival. They just arent the biggest. That's the TO media, trying to get the Leafs that claim. The canadian media trying to spin things that way.

Agreed. The Oilers and Flames have a good rivalry going right now but a playoff series would probably it over the top again. You can tell that guys like Moreau and Phaneuf really aren't fans of each other. Even before their two fights they always seemed to find each other. It looks like there is a genuine disliking for one another. I doubt they're the only ones.

At the same time, some guys are friends.....or at least don't hate each other. Laraque organizes hockey games in the summer just for fun and their are stories of him spontaneously calling Iginla and he would show up and play.
