I have to go with Alfredsson, I'm a Bruins fan, and I'll tell you guys, at the end of last year when the Bruins were fighting for the playoffs, they played a couple of games against the Sens and pretty much dominated them. If the Sens had a healthy Alfredsson at that time, the Bruins might still have come out on top, but it would have been close.

I have a feeling a great majority of fans of other northeast teams, who get to watch the sens play often, would feel the same as I do.

Heatley and Spezza are both great players, but the guy I would want on my team the most would be Alfredsson.

Last year, Alfie, but I seriously think that Heatley will be the best Senator this year.

Alfredsson is the heart and soul of the Ottawa Senators.. He is ELITE in both ends off the ice, a great leader and a very hard working guy...

IMO he is easily the best player on the Sens..

I'd rank them like this..

Alfredsson

Spezza
Heatley

And thats no knock on Spezza and Heatley. Alfredsson is just that good.. He is a notch above the other guys..
Now how is Spezza better than Heatley and since when did Alfredsson score 50-55-105 or even 50-50-100.
Sure, he scored 103 points 3 YEARS AGO, that was 43-60, and that was his best year, and the most goals he ever scored.
Now Heatley... 05-06 50-53-103
06-07 50-55-105
07-08 41-41-82 (76 GP)

I voted Spezza based on what I think will happen this year. No question, Alfredsson is the life of the Senators and all around, their best player. However I feel Spezza is going to take the next step and turn into the player we all know he can be this year. I think of the three, he's the biggest gamebreaker and can change a game in an instant. Heatley I believe has capped out, and I just can't believe Alfredsson will continue to get better with age once again.

What? Alfredsson is the heart and soul of the team, the captain, he can singlehandedly carry the play, he slows things down so people like Spezza and Heatley can set up comfortably and he penalty kills.

I dearly hate him and he's public enemy number 1 in Toronto but,I have to give credit where credit is due

Alfie

Heatley
Spezza

Alfie is just as elite offensively as defensively.I think Spezza and Heatley will be better offensively then Alfie in a couple years but not now

Its Alfie and any true Sens fan will tell you this

Spezza is better than Heatley because Spezza is better defesnively IMO and has better offensive skill, and creativity

And what is the deal with you? Are you a Sens fan? Because any Sens fan should be man enough to admit that Alfie is the best player out of the three

I don't vote for Alfredsson because he's old, and we won't see any better seasons than that amazing 05/06 season, like what Sting said.
Now Heatley, he's at his peak.
Spezza, he's still climbing the hill. When he's at his best, I'll vote for him, but right now, he's not, so it's Heatley for me.

They are all beasts but here is my thinking...

If I was starting a playoff series or international tournament - Alfie for his experience, leadership, and all-around play.

If I was starting a franchise - Spezza for his ability to make other players around him better and the fact he is just a joy to watch.

If it was for my favorite team - Heatley because the idea of a Heatley-Thornton-Cheechoo line makes me squirm...

No need for the smart alack remark. I watched plenty of Sens hockey last year, and Spezza had long stretches where did not look good without Heatley, plain and simple. Oftentimes he would skate around aimlessly making bad passes, all the while with no desire to finish on his own. I heard many Sens fans saying the exact same thing on these boards last year, and I was responding to another poster who mentioned it earlier, so I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Long stretches? He was a little under PPG without him. He wasn't that bad.

Spezza couldn't adapt as fast as Heatley or Alfredsson can and would, under a PPG for him is slightly off...

i seem to be getting some hate from my fellow fans...

here's my thinking:
Offense: Heatley>Spezza=Alfie
Defence: Alfie>Heatley>Spezza
Leadership: Alfie>Heatley>Spezza
Tough play: Heatley>Alfie>Spezza

heatley is the only true superstar ottawa has ever had. (unless you count cashin)

heatley may have untapped leadership potential, and has worked his way up the leadership chart in ottawa.

alfie is the heart, soul, and leader of our team, and is easily our most valuable player, but this question asks for our best player, and by my interpretation of that word, heatley shoud win.

How does playing for Ottawa end up with a comment on about the IIHF. Jesus, you can go back to Heatley's time in Atlanta if it makes you feel better.

Heatley does not play as tough as Alfie, particularly given that his frame is bigger.

Only when he gets mad, and then he often takes a slashing penalty.

As far as I'm concerned, Heatley's additional offensive ability does not compensate for all of the other areas where Alfie has him beat, at least right now.

I have heard this thousands of tims, literally

The reason Spezza looked out of place is because he ws playing on the top line with Fisher and Kelly/Vermette/Robitaille, and the longest strech Spezza played without Heatley was 9 games I think, that isn't what I would call a long strech, and even then he was around a PPG, that's pretty good for Kelly and Fisher

Skating aimlessly? No desire to finish? I am not even going to respond
