Hey man, I was about to settle for a "Skoula for a paper clip" deal. Welcome back to the organization, Kurt. Anaheim fans... Good luck with that guy

Sauer has impressed me even less than Skoula has this season. And I witnessed Martin's free give away show last night. But Sauer is big pylon the way he has played this season after looking quite promesing the season before. Than again, so did Skoula in 2001.

Hell, I'd probably keep Skoula at this point. His upside is much more than the #4/#5 Sauer will round out into at max. It's a lateral deal, but it could pack out nicely for the two, a change of scenery and all.

Sauer likes to think he can fight. He can't.
He's pretty good defensively, sometimes.
Non-existant offensively.
He used to be in your system, so you guys are probably already familiar with him.

Skoula was less than worthless in Colorado, getting him out, was a must. The kid may succeed elsewhere but he was abosolutely ATROCIOUS these past few years.

That is my first reaction, it seems that this is not the best asset management in the world from Pierre Lacroix.

First Schastlivy, now Skoula. Why do the Ducks get the most traded players on these boards?

Hey any deal is good if it involves Skoula in another teams jersey. I would rather have Sauer than Skoula anyway, I'll take that draft pick too

For the Ducks sake, I hope this isn't a rerun of Murray in Florida.

Skoula mystifies me. He has good offensive skills, and at times, he looked like he had turned the corner this season. Then he would go - 3.........all 3 goals being his fault. He watches the puck to much, and leaves the dman open too much in front of the net. Maybe Murray can knock some sense in him. A defensive system, rather than an offensive one, may help him out..........but I wouldn't bet on it.

I remeber when Lacroix traded Ozolinsh to Carolina he said that Skoula was able to take his place in the lineup and this is why he made the trade

Babcock has been good at getting enigma type players to work in his system (Ozolinsh, Niedermayer, Fedorov and Prospal are works in progress beginning to come around, Schastlivy looks good so far)

While Skoula is struggling, I gotta admit I wasn't too impressed with Sauer at times either. But since I have seen Skoula having much better days in his career and think his potential is still interesting, I give the advantage to Anaheim.

However that's just from a value perspective. From a performance perspective, I think Sauer will do just fine in Colorado and they most probably won't regret the deal.

Advantage: Ducks

for the moment, i love the deal for the Avs. Skoula had to go, and Sauer is a mighty fine tough #7 d-man. good deal heading for the playoffs.

2 bad points: i think Colorado should have gotten someone more experienced, and i have this nagging feeling that Skoula will be a star in Anaheim. that would really suck.

Agreed. I'm interested to see what Skoula can do with a new team. I've been wanting him in Pittsburgh for quite some time, but I think Anaheim is a better destination for him.

Skoula had all the oppurtunites to succeed in Colorado, save for one playoff run, he was nothing but a pylon. Hartley makes his players work defensively, and it didn't help Skoula. On top of that, look at the defensive players Skoula has had to learn from......some of the best from both ends of the spectrum.

Blake, Foote, Borque, Ozo (offense), and a slew of others.

I think he needed a change of scenery.....badly. Maybe a new team will spark him.....but honestly, I'm not sure he has the smarts to succeed in the NHL, high potential or not.

I'm still shocked anyone would actually want Sauer...

Guy has size but thats about it...

he doesn't hit
he doesnt' skate
he doesn't shoot
he doesn't pass all that well

guy is good for nothing for than positioning against big players

so whats the story on Skoula, i've read he's inept in defensive zone, but how about everything else?

I am happy to see this deal. It will now silence the Av fans who were trying to pitch Skoula as a viable asset for actual NHL caliber players and puts an end to thier constantly pitching him for everyone and thier brother. No longer will the "Skoula and a 5th for Comrie type threads happen any more. He proved, in the end, to be worth no more than a fringe NHL talent defencemen which, is what he is worth his self.
