Pickard's the third one signed, correct? After Stamkos (1.) and Doughty (2.) ?

Unless Nashville has him penciled in as their back up goalie i dont see why they would sign him just yet... He still has 1-2 yrs left in juniors..

Why shouldn't they?

Its not like this means he has to play in the NHL.

true but maybe they want him in the Milwaukee system ASAP. Pekke Rinne will probably be the backup in Nashville now, no?

last season they had Grumet-Morris and Dekanich playing also.

Doesn't matter. He can still play for Tri-City without any years coming off his entry level deal.

There's really no difference in signing him now or in two years.

He's not eligible to play in the AHL.

Boedker and Tikhovnov signed too.

It's:

1. Boedker
2. Tikhonov
3. Filatov
4. Stamkos
5. Doughty
6. Pickard

I'm pretty sure that's the order so far.

Teams do this all the time. Hickey was signed before last season. Bernier was signed the year he was drafted. Moller has been signed. Simmonds was signed last year. It's about getting your prospects locked up, even if they won't be playing in the NHL or AHL. Teams lose nothing by doing this.

Dont they become a free agent earlier this way? Goalies take a bit longer before they break out, probably would have been smarter to wait a few years, unless hes playing games in the show next year.

As long as the player is under 20 and plays less than 10 games in the NHL before going back to Juniors the year doesn't count against their contract.

If they send Pickard back to Tri-City the next two years, he'll still have 3 years on his contract come 2010-2011.

Its good that Nashville gets the signing out of the way, that way he is easily accessible if an emergency call up is needed. They do not have the steadiest goaltending in the league. The downside of this signing, is if Pickard struggles big time and ends up busting Nashville will still have to honor his contract, but I don't think thats going to happen.

DGM spent most of the year in Cincinnati and Dekanich wasn't signed until Colgate's season was over, so what do they have in common with Pickard?

Rinne will eventually be the starter in Nashville while Smith, Pickard and Dekanich duke it out for the role of "Goalie of the Future."

Nyet. The Preds have his rights so he can participate in training camp without a contract.

Oh ok. I thought there was some thing like that to protect players in the case of injury or something like that.
