Month to Training Camp

Little over a month until training camp...

who do you think shows up in the best shape? who do you think has declined from last year or rose from the previous year in terms of muscle?

Around here I remember reading Staal had gained 10-15 pounds of muscle. If that's true when he gets to camp, I'd be ecstatic.....

I think Prucha shows up 15 pounds less.

Well, Staal's new muscle has to come from somewhere, right? So let's see, if everyone else on the team gains an average of 8 pounds, then Prucha would cease to exist!!!!

Amen!! I think he could be much more effective if he got up to lets say, 185-190. Probably won't happen tho.

I totally agree. Whether we're talking spots WITHIN the lineup (1st line, 2nd line, etc.) or simply spots ON the roster, there are very few guarantees this season. I can't remember the last time the opening day lineup was this much in question.

Do you guys see Sanguinetti making the team this year?

I dont see where he can fit if you have Redden, Staal, Mara, Girardi, Rosy, and Kalinin.

will it be worth it for him to be a reserve? or will he just play in Hartford?

No. He hasn't much toned his game completely in the AHL yet to say he should be in the NHL. Plus, it's not like we have an open spot. As a 7th D he'd be a waste as he'd be getting much more defensive development had he played first pair minutes in the AHL as opposed to some games in the NHL. Although, Kalinin does seem to have an injury problem.......

It can't come soon enough. I'm dying for some news!

These off-seasons are tough.

whenever i feel awful about how long the offseason is, i try to remember how miserable the lockout was and be appreciative that there will be a season at all

This should be an interesting camp. Maybe Tom will get the right line combos together early enough so that the players can gel a bit before the season starts, unlike last season.

To be honest, I see Anisimov making this team, and we move Dru to wing, I just have a good feeling about the kid.

I really don't know if it's fair to compare him to anyone in the NHL just yet, but here's a link to his hockeysfuture page

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/artem_anisimov

hope it helps.

If Ani does make the roster...i think you'll be seeing Dubi moved to the power forward position.

I don't think he will. Renney is already on record saying Ani needs another 10-15 pounds (quote from development camp) and there's really no need to rush him. Let him have a season to really start to dominate in the AHL. If he plays well, I wouldn't be surprised if he got some callups, but I think it's a long shot for him to make the team out of camp.

He only just turned 20 in May. Another year of physical and mental maturity in the AHL, playing top line minutes, will be good for him.

definitely agree that anisimov needs more weight. by getting bulkier, he'll be a MUCH more effective 3rd line center, which is probably where he'll start out. plus, gomez and drury are on the small side, which is part of what makes me love dubi so much: he adds much needed size up the middle. i'd like to see anisimov do the same....

I predict that the next time we see Prucha he will get checked and end up on his rear end.
