Playing defense tonight for the first time

I'm getting thrown on defense today against my will. I'm normally a center. I'm a decent skater for my league, and I know the basics as far as covering the rush. I could use some advise on defensive zone coverage though.

Being a center, shouldn't be as much of an adjustment as coming from the wing. If in doubt, go to the front of the net, stay between the man and your goal without screening your goalie. Push onrushing forwards towards the boards.

Since it's your first time, try to avoid joining the rush too. I had to play d once and always did that. If you're fast enough to get back, then you can do it. Also, since it's your first time, don't pinch.

When people are skating towards you, pull your stick in so that its closer to your body than normal, then when they get close enough push it out and hit the puck if you can. If you keep your stick extended the entire time then the person knows how far away to stay or he can deak your easier, but if you let him come closer and then shoot your stick you can get him quickly.

Stay between your man and the net, and for god's sake cover the slot.
The two simple rules of defense.

If you know a guy is going to get by you, at least make him go outside your body and around you. It makes them take a longer path to the net and doesn't give them as good of an angle on a shot.
