Fighting on Hockey Day In Canada

My dad said that there wont be any fights in the 3 games that are on. He says he figures CBC told all 6 teams just to play hockey and not to fight. Anyone else agree with this theory?

I suppose it's possible, but if two guys want to go, I don't think they'll care about what they were told.

I don't buy it. That said, Montreal scratched Langdon so maybe you're dad is right. We'll see for sure in the Van-Oil game. How's that for indecision?

Somehow I doubt CBC has any influence over what players do on the ice.

The Oilers-Moose game might be the only one with a scrap.

Well looks like the theory is wrong, sort of.

Warrener and Neil I think it was just hugged for a few seconds.....brutal.

Brookbank vs Big Georges would be awesome.

Fighting is part of playing hockey, so I don't see how that would make sense at all.

If CBC didn't like fighting, Don Cherry would not be on TV.

CBC knows that fights create excitement. Your dad is out to lunch.

You know, with the way that beeyotch company is run, it wouldn't suprise me in the LEAST if that were the case. What a joke. Yeah, we hate the fights...just need goals.

Why is it that anything to do with our (Canadian) media is the ultimate in politically correct *****footing? Our media is utterly emasculated, with no idea of how to truly bring or identify the passion and intensity that is hockey. Goals are nice...fights are nice...what, exactly, is wrong with having both? Really, they need to look no father than "canada's team" (snicker) for their example that thuggery sells tickets. I don't know about you guys, but I am buying that Goon PPV extravaganza with pleasure.

Down with the Childrens Broadcasting Corporation...they are trying to objectify hockey as Mr. Rogers Neighbourhood or something...lets hide the violence, so people don't think it exists. Yeah. Thats right.

Idiots.
Someone should beat up Ron McLean today on one of those backyard rinks. That would boost ratings.

All this aside...the CBC owns or cares precisely squat when it comes to the Oilers, Flames and Nux...so you'll see some fisticuffs, whether those pacifists like it or not.
ok...rant off.

Somehow I couldn't see the players taking a network seriously if they made a request like this. That said, Oliwa's out of the lineup, so maybe they went to management asking for no fights. If anything, they were trying to limit the potential for fights, but there's no way a player is going to play different because of what a TV crew says.

I dont think that is true, the players can and should be able to just play the game and let the other stuff take care of itself.

Wow, what a surprise. Someone bashing the Ceeb from Alberta [?]...You should watch Espn or Fox's Hockey Day in Canada. Plus, they didn't try and halt the fighting - that was a *theory* put forth by someone's father.

Why would anyone defend the Canadian Propaganda Corporation?

I'll take watching three hockey games in one day broadcast by the CBC over watching bowling or darts on ESPN any day of the week, thank you very much.

Hey....right after the Darts, they have the Ironman paint drying competition, followed up by the always feisty chia-pet judo semi-finals. Should be good.

They even have this blue streak that follows the dart when it gets thrown. Real nice.

Seriously chicpea...you are from BC are you not?

Hockey aside...they ignore you guys even more than they ignore us. If it weren't for the Nux, CBC would probably forget about BC altogether. CBC sucks. Don't believe the hype.

. Well, they do ignore us a bit, but I have too many fond memories of great shows e.g., Kids in the Hall, the National et al.

And, and, I'm watching the Leafs v. Habs as I type! Damn, 2 mins for Zednik.
Anyhoo, I don't want to get into it, so let's just disagree and remain friends eh?

That was a great scrap. Both guys landed some beauties and they both decided to stop when enough was enough. Good to see. I give the decision to Rivet in that battle. Let's hope the Oilers vs. Canucks game has a few of those dandy scarps tonight.
