OT? - Hockey Fighting OUTLAWED In Quebec

According to CKAC, there will be a press conference tomorrow, and the Ministry Of Education (Also in charge of sports) will announce the outlawing of all fighting in hockey at the amateur level.

It made the Nation look bad. So off with it!

QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau, of course, will not contest the law.

Is this a knee jerk reaction to the Roy incident? Sounds kinda dumb if you ask me, how are the guys gonna be ready to fight in the pros if they can't fight in the Q?

This will put the Q even farther behind the O and Dub.

Actually, they think the OHL will follow suit.

A Snowball Effect type of thing.

The J.Roy affair is seriously blowing out of proportion. It has generated a lot of controversy and publicity in Quebec, especially when the son of a well-known hockey personnality is included. If this affair has ever included the son of a much lesser-known person,it would be eventually ignored.

So, what if Cape Breton and Halifax players get into a scrap in Halifax - no harm, no foul? This is only in Quebec so far, right?

You're right. Had it happened in a game between Rouyn and Rimouski nobody covers it, and the Government does nothing.

But it got covered from sea to sea, from Hudson's Bay to Texas. And the report goes "This happened in QUEBEC, in the QUEBEC Major Junior Hockey League.". Can't have the precious Nation look bad.

So it won't happen again.

Man I wish they were that damn proactive with everything.

It's in the whole Quebec junior system, and the QMJHL will make their rule according to it. So no, they can't fight there either.

Total knee jerk reaction. You would think the government has more pressing needs.

I agree with Bob McKenzie's thoughts on this one.....

Kicking players out of the game for fighting will not stop these incidents.

What is the penalty.... game misconduct + one game suspension like in JR A and the NCAA..... Won't stop incidents like this.

Will it reduce the total number of fights?? yes
Willl it prevent a line brawl in a 7-1 game? NO.... Will it stop a meathead like JRoy from being a meathead?? NO.

Actually, the words used were "Ban And Legislate"

So I guess, It would be threated as Assault and tried in courts.

And yes, that is quite extreme, but as a state that will positively take that last cent you had been hiding in the crack of your ass if they want it, no biggie.

They want our collective goods, and they're gonna get them.

Here my suggestion for the new fight rule: if you fight your kick out of the game but your not suspended (like the ncaa), you only get suspended if you initiate a fight

Seriously, the potential impact of this affair has been clearly exaggerated and the government who has passed this legislature has overreacted. You're exactly right,I also wish the governement in general were more proactive with certain issues/pressing needs who are important to solve in this society.Quebec government sucks as a whole,IMO.Political opportunism and will to gain political exposure are the motivations of implementing this ban.

Stupid reaction. Will they ban, taking 20 stride from the red line to hit the goalie also? No. It wasnt on the TV every 15 minutes on 4 channel steady(Only in quebec) for 5 days in a row and there were no Roy involved.

That's just plain ********. The kids cant even hit until they arelike 14 yo. They dont learn how to hit, they just know that they can so they think its cool to cheapshot others. And now no fighting. As someone said it'll all happen with the stick. "I can't drop the glove or I'll be sued, Alright I'll slash him 2 handed on the arm and get maybe 2 games out"

A BIG STEP FORWARD. Right.

Never mix Politic with Hockey.

WEAK Ban the nutcases, not the guys fighting fairly.. 5 games to J.Roy If they gave him the ban the governement would not have to step up.

Banned in minor hockey. Fight fanatics will still be able to enjoy the semi-pro league.

It's coming to the NHL soon, how many times did we hear about banning fights this season?
