The same planet that Hal Gill was worth a 2nd and a 5th.
Hal Gill = Andreas Lilja
Im sorry, but Hal Gill is better then Andreas Lilja. Not to mention just because thye found a team willing to give that up for Gill does not mean we could find that for Lilja.

He signed a new contract, therefore won't be traded. Why, why, why don't posters understand this?
See, i cant tell if this is Sarcasm or not....
use a smiley or something.
If its not, its patently false, they signed him as insurance because they knew they could and would trade him if they had to, and wouldn't let him walk away for nothing.

Because its not true?
I suggest reading this post.. Heaton is correct..

How much is his contract and for how long? (Sorry if this is already posted)
Stay at home guy who will try and throw your forward around a lot and sometimes he might do it succesfully but dont count on it. He blocks a lot of shots because he;s got a big body and is just always in front of the shot. It's almost like he's either really good at blocking shots or just a idiot and lets anything hit him so he doesnt get at fault for letting it go past him.

Normally i would write a long essay on why i think this philosophy makes zero sense, but ill just stick with the "Normally you would not be able to find a idiot to trade for a guy like this but you add a big body and a cup ring and i guess that will land you something from someone."
betts makes 600,000 that aint much. solid 4th liner but rangers can use some grit on defense.
If Detroit did trade him and actually found a buyer, it would have to contain a draft choice only because we just have a plethora of depth right now upfront and on the blueline.
I'd waive him after training camp...hopefully Ericsson, Meech or Quincey wins a roster spot. If no one claims him, he can rot in Grand Rapids. Lilja has very little value around the league...maybe a late round pick is all Holland can get for him. I think the whole point of trading him is to free up some cap room and a roster spot for one of the young defenseman. I wouldn't expect them to pick up another player in return. He'll either be waived and picked up by another club for free or they'll be able to nab a 6th or 7th round pick for him.
The "he signed a new contract" misconception couldn't be farther from the truth. He was signed at a point where Stuart resigning was looking very unlikely.

Watch the man play and you will understand. This is one move from Holland that i have yet to like in probably a long, long time. Many will agree that the man is just...bad... had Stuart signed a few days before he did and ended up signing before Lilja, id probably say Lilja would NOT have been resigned.
Lilja was signed because it was thought that Stuart wasn't going to be signed. Stuart signed pretty much at the noon deadline Holland set before he was going to cut off talks and move on. The Wings signed Lilja to be their backup 4th dman just incase. As a 5th/6th dman he really isn't needed, the Wings have Lebda, Meech, Ericsson, Quincey, Chelios, etc etc etc. I'd be very surprised if the Wings didn't trade or waive him before the season because he has the worst bang for his buck in terms of 5th/6th dmen. Lilja's a big body that is fairly good on the pk, but pretty awful 5 on 5. If a team has a weak pk they might think of taking him for a low pick, or picking him up once he's likely waived. Lilja was an insurance policy that turned out not to be needed.
