Hnidy=ta ta, allison.

hnidy plays a similar game, but much better.

question is...when york gets healthy...

eaton
timonen
bombadir
york
hamhuis
zidlicky
hnidy

allison

we still end up with 7 dmen, even without allison. zids becomes power play specialist? bottom line..we now have at least one solid stay-at-home guy per pairing. good deal.

Interesting. While you would have to think that Zids becomes PP specialist, can you really dress him every night just for the PP? I know you can always use 7 dman in the playoffs, but that seems like a waste of talent. But if you dont do that, there isnt anyone on that list that you can send down or even cut. Very interesting question to discuss and I really dont know what the answer is. Good trade either way though.

When your D is healthy, I imagine Hnidy will sit. He's no better than what you have.

He is better than Allison......and York could be gone after this year as well. Overpayment, to a degree. Hopefully the pick is Col's 3rd round pick.

it was, per the tennessean.

and i agree. i don't think someone who doesn't watch the predators...and how bad their defense has been in recent weeks, could legitimately say "he's no better than what you have"

at least there's no more schnabel, and hutchinson's offense won't be missed.

I watch the Preds all the time. They're my second favorite team. If York is done for the year, than yeah, Hnidy should be the 6th guy, but if York is healthy, Hnidy should be in the press box.

I think SensGuy maybe right. A healthy York means someone is sitting, I doubt is Zidlicky.

I dont know enough about Hnidy to say he would play/sit over York. But unless York is done for the year, someone is going to have to go. I think who sits would probably be determined by who we are playing. Especially in the playoffs. The style of the other team would dictate who plays. So I still think this is a good trade b/c he brings some solid D, at least better than Schnabel and Allison.

I was looking at his profile on the Preds website. It shows he played a few games at right wing for the Sens this yr. This maybe a possibility, who knows?

Hnidy has played some forward this season, with decent success. He works his butt off, although he's still quite limited. You defenitely won't ever be dissapointed in his work ethic.

Hnidy, big heart, small talent. He mainly played wing when we had ALOT of forward injuries, and since we had 9 healthy defensemen, somebody had to fill in.

Well if he impresses me as much as the last guy we got from Ottawa (Brookbank), I will be happy. I still think we should have kept Brookbank over Jimmy Mac.

while Poile picked up Hnidy late in the deadline day, I think he might go down as one of the more underrated pickups by Poile.

He is better than Allison as someone mentioned in the gdt, but I'll gladly take Allison as our 7th d-man

Honestly, I'm not a fan of either (Brookbank or McKenzie). I'm just not a big fan of no talented big "enforcers" that only fight other big "enforcers."

I like Stevenson has a middle weight. Alteast some non-enforcers will go with him (ie McCarty, Barnaby, Staios, Moreau). Tootoo, imo, is one of the most effective fighers in the league. A guy like Brookbank or McKenzie would never in a million years get Iginla to go with him. Tootoo pissed the crap out of him and went with him (and took their MVP out of the game for 5 mintues). Walker is extremely effective when he fights. He gets the non-enforcers to go with him and he usually kicks the crap out of them. I don't *like* for him to fight, because of the risk of injury and losing one of our best players for 5 minutes. Zidlicky getting Nash to go was pretty awesome too.

McKenzie is OK. Atleast he's not a huge liability out there. But I don't think his fighting has been a difference maker for us this year.

it might have been just me, but hnidy was rock solid, tonight. made a few huge hits, and unlike most of our d-men...his shots from the point go right on net..and seemed to catch osgood off-guard. played big minutes, too, due to eaton's back spasms.

I also thought he did a heck of a job. He came close to snapping on Johnson in the 3rd. he did good to keep his cool. got even with a hard check of his own later. He made safe plays most of the night. He's definately a good pick up.

Couldn't see the game obviously but it sounded like Hnidy was having a solid game. Great pickup

He looked much better than Bomber who didn't look bad either. Defensively he looked as good as anyone we've had all season.

I was favorably impressed with Shane. If last night is any indication, he really fills a void we have tried to plug with Allison or Schnabel. Played smart, made good passes, decent shot, some really solid hits...

I agree that he looked better than Bomber; Bomber had a much better game against the Blues than he did against the Bruins.

Back to the Jimmy Mac/ Brookbank issue. I think that if we are going to dress an enforcer ( and I wouldn't mind if we had him at a healthy scratch against the less abrasive teams) I would have prefered Brookbank who in my opinion was a better skater. I think we kept JMac for his leadership and his locker room presence. Brookbank was/is clearly a better fighter and was quicker to jump to the defence of a team mate. Now that is not a knock against JMac. I am glad to have him on the team. At -10 with an ATOI of around 4 mins though, I would use him (and any other would be enforcer minimallly).

I should actually clarify and say physically in the defensive end, he was as good as anyone we've had all season. Hamhuis played remarkable again last night, this kid is going to be a superstar.

Good point trigger. I think Hammer gets better in every game. He had a few nice hip checks, and is there a better poke checker on the team...I don't think so.

He's inconsistent, but that is to be expected. When he rounds out his game, gets a little stronger, he'll be incredible. If he had the PP time of other rookie Dmen (like Pitkanen, Liles) he'd probably be tops in points. He sees around a minute and a half less than Pitkanen and about 30 seconds less than Liles. For those scoring at home, that's over 100 minutes more for Pitkanen on the PP and over 36 minutes more for Liles. But before those people say that Pitkanen and Liles are earning those minutes and would get them on the Preds too (because they are so good, I presume), let me say that with arguably the top Dman, offensively, in the league in Zids and and a two-time All-Star Dman in Timonen, that neither Liles nor Pitkanen would be getting the same ice time on the Preds. No way Trotz sits Zids in favor of either unless Zids is exhausted.

Congrats to Dan.
