Rank the Panthers defensive core

I like what Martin has done to reshape this teams defensive core. I think Detroit and Anaheim are two of the best in the league, but I dont see Florida ranked that many spots behind them. Im curious to know what others might think of them. And this poll has nothing to do with Bouwmeester leaving as well. As of right now, he is a Panther, and will probably be one until the deadline. And it does include the McCabe for MVR trade. So...

Bouwmeester
Ballard
McCabe
Allen
Skrastins
Boynton
Welch
Murphy

Bouwmeester-Ballard
McCabe-Allen
Boynton-Skrastins/Welch/Murphy

I got them top five overall, but could be anywhere from five to seven. Flame away....

I went top 10. The only two good things about that D is Bouwmeester and Ballard. Boynton, McCabe, and Allen are all overrated.

I know, do you believe all the praise he gets around here.

Seriously how can you call the most heavily criticized player in the NHL overrated? In fact he is underrated if anything, the guy is gets crapped on like he doesnt belong in the NHL when the fact is he is a 25 min NHL d-man on almost every team in the League who can play in any situation. Sure he makes glaring mistakes but the fact is the good far outweighs the bad.

Last year they may have been, but this year their D has obviously gotten better, I'd say top 10 while their offense is like 25th-30th.

They might be in the top 15 in the league, but even that's a stretch.

Not that it matters even if they were top 5, which to say they are is laughable, because once Bouwmeester is gone, they'll been in the bottom 10 in the league, easily.

Im curious to know who are the 15 teams in the league that are better than them? Or what makes them so laughable as top five in the league? Im curious to know what you think.

The Panthers D-corps is actually better than many people want to believe. And although McCabe is well overpaid, he's not the worst D-man in the league, either.

A quick little rundown should show where the Panthers stand:
(note: D-men not listed in any particular order, may not be entirely accurate as to who is in the minors or not)

Tier 1
Anaheim: Niedermeyer, Pronger, Schneider, Beauchemin, O'Donnell, Montador, Huskins
Detroit: Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Lilja, Lebda, Meech, Ericsson

Tier 2
Florida: Bouwmeester, McCabe, Boynton, Allen, Skrastins, Ballard, Murphy, Belak, Welch
Dallas: Zubov, Boucher, Daley, Robidas, Grossman, Niskanen
San Jose: Boyle, Blake, Ehrhoff, McLaren, Lukowich, Vlasic, Murray
Vancouver: Bieksa, Mitchell, Ohlund, Salo, Krajicek, Davison, Edler

Tier 3
Calgary: Phaneuf, Regehr, Aucoin, Sarich, Warrener, Vandermeer, Eriksson
Nashville: Weber, Suter, de Vries, Hamhuis, Zanon, Koistinen, Klein
Ottawa: Phillips, Smith, Volchenkov, Lee, Schubert, Nycholat, Meszaros
Chicago: Campbell, Seabrook, Sopel, Keith, Wisniewski, Hjalmarsson, Barker, Walker
St. Louis: Brewer, McKee, Johnson, Jackman, Wagner, Woywitka
Buffalo: Rivet, Spacek, Lydman, Tallinder, Numminen, Paetsch, Sekera
New York Rangers: Redden, Rozsival, Kalinin, Mara, Girardi, Staal Pock
Colorado: Hannan, Liles, Clark, Salei, Foote, Leopold, Tjarnqvist
Minnesota: Johnsson, Burns, Schultz, Zidlicky, Sjoula, Bergeron, Foster, Reitz
Pittsburgh: Gonchar, Whitney, Orpik, Sydor, Gill, Eaton, Letang, Scuderi, Goligoski
Montreal: Markov, Komisarkek, Hamrlik, Gorges, O'Byrne, Bouillon, Dandenault
Boston: Chara, Wideman, Ward, Ference, Stuart, Alberts, Hnidy

Tier 4
Washington: Green, Poti, Pothier, Morrisonn, Alzner, Jurcina, Erskine
Edmonton: Visnovsky, Souray, Gilbert, Staios, Grebeshkov, Smid, Roy
Carolina: Pitkanen, Gleason, Corvo, Kaberle, Wallin, Seidenberg, Babchuk, Melichar
Phoenix: Jovonovski, Morris, Sauer, Michalek, Yandle, Hale, Jones
Toronto: Kaberle, Kubina, Van Ryn, Finger, Colaiacovo, Stralman
New Jersey: Martin, White, Salvador, Vishnevski, Mottau, Greene, Oduya, Brookbank

Tier 5
New York Islanders: Streit, Witt, Sutton, Martinek, Gervais, Campoli, Meyer
Tampa Bay: Carle, Kuba, O'Brian, Ranger, Picard, Niskala, Hutchinson
Columbus: Commodore, Tyutin, Backman, Hejda, Klesla, Tollefson
Los Angeles: Johnson, Preissing, Gauthier, Greene, Doughty, Hickey
Atlanta: Hainsey, Havelid, Exelby, Klee, Enstrom, Valabik

Florida is 3-6 in the league with McCabe, IMO.

By the fans? If so, that's a ridiculous statement. McCabe and Allen are far from being overrated....

I have them at eleventh.

And LoveDaSlug, how exactly is Boston and it's crappy 3-through-6 in the third tier? Even Wideman is a questionable number two. They don't belong over Carolina, Edmonton or Toronto. Same league, IMO.
