I agree 100% with this.

But that being said, King should never have been hired. He was a teacher, which was what we needed. However, the team wasn't exactly going full bore into a youth movement.

I wonder how guys like Brule, Chimera, Malhotra, or Johnson would have turned out if they'd been coached by King...

Yeah this is off-topic, but the team had the wrong coaching at the wrong time for six seasons. Hire the teacher for the expansion period, which is necessarily about vets getting a second chance or never-weres, then fire him just as you decide to play the kids.

Klesla? Satisfied? Well, you'd like him to have higher-end top-out potential, but I agree with those who've said his d-game has rounded into top form and he may yet have potential as a scorer.

Boumeester potential? I think so.
Bouwmeester potential?

so Klesla still has the potential to become an all star defensmen?

reading the post I would have interpret a very useful guy, great in is own zone, but not all star- top 10 in the league potential; which Jay Bo clearly has..

It is true that playing with Tyutin could help him, I'm very high on him, hterefore I'm glad to see him leaving for the west...

although I'm not sure I'm happy to see Zherdev coming east; I believe this year could be his breakout year...

BTW nice user name, it used to be my team.. RIP Nordiques...

No way does he have all star potential.

He's 26. He doesn't have much of an offensive game, and he's soft as molasses. He'll improve, maybe even be a decent number three guy, but he'll never be an all star at this rate of development.

No worries......he'll be playing in Russia after this season when his deal is up. Although he was my favorite guy, I'm glad Howson got something of value for him while he could.

I'd agree he's not all star material, but soft as molasses? C'mon, man, that's a little bit of an exaggeration.

I think for a high draft pick he is just average and still makes rookie plays. Does this guy have a mean streak?

Klesla has improved year to year. he is a sevicable 2nd pairing dman imo. I dont think he is soft, but he does lose his feet on alot of collisions. He can deliver a good hit, and needs to hit more. Remember when he broke his hand, may have even been his first fight.

I dont recall that. You could probably count on three fingers the # of fights he's been in. They probably said no more fighting son, after he broke his hand.

I really don't know, but for some reason I have it in my head that someone Klesla fought ended up with a broken arm. Getting arm caught in a jersey sounds familiar...

Sorry, as I recall it Klesla had his hand broken when he got it caught in a sweater during a fight. Obviously, bones have been broken on more than one occasion.

Klesla did break his hand getting caught in a jersey I think. But I feel like I remember hearing him break a guy's arm. I think it was right when I started following the jackets between 01-02 and 02-03 though. Before Sid played. Just a hunch though.

The broken hand was from fighting Eric Brewer at the end of a game against St. Louis in 2005. If memory serves me right, it was right in front of the CBJ bench.

According to hockeyfights.com, Klesla has seven career fights (including preseason). 01-02 PS v Tootoo, 02-03 v Willsie, 03-04 v Tootoo, 05-06 PS v Upshall, 05-06 v Brewer, 06-07 PS v Keith, 06-07 v Malone.

That was the Pens' Ryan Malone, back in October 2006. Klesla hit Crosby high, Malone went after him and somehow immediately broke his left forearm when the fight started. Malone missed 18 games afterwards.

One last comment for the Montreal fan, btw, I spent two weeks in Montreal one summer a long time ago-what a great city chuck full of history and culture!

That said, Rusty is still here after nearly a decade of pathetic losing team hockey-I say he is a solid NHL defenseman who is what he is and still around for a reason.

I love the dude, he does what he is told and gets it done. He's an A+ all around NHL defenseman with an untapped offensive upside. As some have said, if allowed, he could be an offensive threat. He knows how to control the puck, skate and hit people as well. I've seen his point shot many a time, it's wicked! He wanted to be Captain of this team imo and earned it! oh well......

So I was browsing through the Hockey publications at Barnes and Noble when I came upon the Hockey News: Ultimate Fantasy Guide 2008-2009.

Interesting that CBJ defensemen point projections ranked our top 4 boys in this order:

1.Klesla
2.Russel
3.Tyutin
4.Backman

Could we see Rusty's big shot featured on the PP this season? I'm also very curious to see if Voracek doesn't get some 2nd PP unit time on the point.

Forwards were ranked, predictably:

1. Nash(40 goal projetion)
2. Huselius
3. Umberger
