CBJ iPhone App?

Just got an iPhone and saw that there was a CBJ app available for download. It's simply last year's schedule with the old logo. Hopefully it will be updated.

Anyway....

It got me thinking. Does anyone know how to make these apps? It would be awesome to keep an updated app at your fingertips with more than just a schedule. Box score, stats, player profiles, etc. Maybe even articles on upcoming games or Dispatch/Puck Rakers coverage.

Your thoughts? How to make? Can anyone put something like this together for the CBJ iPhone users?

I'm getting an iPhone on November 25th when my upgrade is available, and to get myself pumped about it, I started looking at apps. I saw the old one you mentioned, and it was kind of meh. I looked around for other Blue Jackets apps, and the best one I could find was the THN one :\

I wonder how people make those anyway...

For those of you with access to the app store, there is a Toronto Maple Leafs app that is downright awesome. Something like that with a Jackets twist would be amazing.

If your looking for stats, news, etc., The Hockey News app is pretty decent.

I do not know how, but I have a relative who is a programer-geek and he said there was App developer package available for a couple hundred $.
Not a bad investment if you choose the right app to do. Rumor is a "Fart" app sold something like 30k uploads at $0.99 in the first month.

Apparently it's an intense process to make one. I have The Hockey News app and it's awesome. Made by the same company that makes the Leafs app I was talking about. They look similar too. I wanted something specifically for the Jackets though.

I think you also have to have a Mac to make one. Bummer.

Probably helps if you know how to program in Cocoa, Objective-C, XCode too.

Yeah it's called something like apple developer thing, it's only $99 though. I'm not sure if you need to know how to program or not though. I just started college 2 months ago for computer engineering, which is a lot of programming, so give me a few years and I'll have us a kick ass app.

Edit: Yes you have to have a Mac to make iPhone apps, but I'm on my macbook right now

Go to iTunes>Application Store>Power Search>

Under Title/Keywords type: hockey fans-columbus

Under Developer Name type: brighthouse labs

I love this application. Its only $.99 and it pulls up any news where CBJ is mentioned.

Note: I also emailed A. Porty awhile back and asked him if there was any plans for the Dispatch to release an application for Puck Rakers. He answered and said he was forwarding the request to the Dispatch I.T. guys. I've never heard any thing back from the them, but I hope they do someday.

It's just so quaint how people still think that being a "Mac owner" or a "PC owner" or whatever somehow makes them special.

Or just pick up a free Twitter app and set up a search for Blue Jackets. It does the same thing.

(no, I don't have one either, but I've been considering it more and more as time goes on...)

My son told me a few weeks ago CD's are going to be extinct with the iPod, now the iPhone and soon there will be an iCar or more. Yet, no genius out there has figured out how to put an 8x11 printer in a lap top yet..

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at with that last. There's plenty of really compact portable printers out there if you want one; they've been around for a while. I can go searching for a few if you'd like. (I've never had the need, myself, although I have sometimes had the geekgadgetlust.)

Built into a laptop is theoretically possible, but it'd be awkward practically; it'd just make the laptop more bulky (and there's no avoiding some degree of bulk with a printer - the paper still has to be able to go through!).

Not getting at anything other than a jest about the ever-changing technology, and some intuition that it will continue as long as there's a dollar to make by the manufacturers. As for the printer/laptop, my idea to have it built into a laptop in a 'non bulky' way would be a seller. I know the mega memory chip concept is the staple these days but I also know how many times I've said to my wife or she’s said to me, print it out and take it. (I must remember those icons)
