Update on 3rd jerseys/shoulder patches

Quote:
You may or may not know that the NHL's third-jersey program is back in full force this coming season after taking a sabbatical in 2007-08. Edmonton, Buffalo, Boston, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Phoenix, Toronto and Philadelphia are among the clubs unveiling new threads.

The Flames are not participating in the fashion free-for-all and will feature the same look in '08-09. You may remember when the new sweaters were unveiled last year that there was a suggestion that the shoulder patches — a Canadian flag and an Alberta flag, as modeled by Craig Conroy above — might be only a one-year feature of the uniform. Well, a club spokesman reports that the team liked the look and will retain the flags for at least one more season.

Anyone else absolutely love the horse? Would have loved to seen a newer version of that as our third jersey.

I have no problem with the flags as shoulder patches. They definetly grew on me last season. If and when they get rid of the flags though the horse would definetly be a good option.

I like the flags, and I wasn't too fond of the horse to be honest.

Im an oilers fan but I had no problems with the shoulder patch flags, but I thought the light blue of the Alberta flag really stuck out. They should have created a different logo to represent Alberta in Flames colours, maybe something like Dallas's state logo.
That being said, by the end of the season it was starting to grow on me and I rarely noticed it.

Yeah, I agree. I have no problem with the Canadian flag, because it's red and it goes with the rest of the jersey, but the blue really sticks out on the red jersey. But I also got used to it by the end of the season. I still don't like it and would like to see it gone or changed to, like you said, a different logo to represent Alberta in Flames colours, but I also rarely notice it anymore.

I'm not too found of the Alberta flag on the shoulder because of the colour contrasts.

I despised the horse head logo. The club should use a bucking bull with flames instead.

After speaking with the Calgary Flames president about a third jersey the team is going to launch next fall, there's little doubt King will be able to keep the secret.

Four franchises have unveiled new alternates, with another 14 rumoured to be doing the same in the near future.

King confessed the Flames are in the final stages of putting theirs together, but was tight-lipped about the new look.

"It's pretty much complete," said King. "We're working on one aspect of one shoulder patch that we're figuring out a little bit, but the rest is complete. It's 95% complete."

Flames sound like they're putting together something of a departure from their Flaming C design that has become a best-seller.
Interesting. Not sure I like that. I trust Ken King though so hopefully the new third won't be that bad.
