Paid the $6.00 to watch the game. One of the scariest games I've every seen. The refs didn't call anything. The guys just run you. A lot of hooking and stick work. If the Hershey Bears out score their opponents that badly you will see our guys getting injured as the other teams get frustrated. The skill level on the whole did not look any better than major junior.

At least there is some good news tonight. Find a way to get Alzner up McPhee.

IMO, the Caps were a better team with Bourque and Alzner.

The team the Caps fielded tonight was clearly not as good as the team that went 5-1-1 in the preseason.

I don't think Bourque plays the kind of minutes in the regular season that he did in the preseason if he's on the big club. For instance--if Flash were getting the same minutes he was, I pretty much guarantee you he would have scored tonight.

Alzner...well... it's early, but let's get him up, shall we?

Bouchard just pulled the 360 move in the Shoot Out against Norfolk.

Walton lost his ****. That was great.

Bears win the game 4-3.

Varlamov wins his first pro game.

2. HER Bouchard, (1) , 18:23

...
funny, as soon as I saw it went to the shootout and knowing Bouchard had scored in regulation, I knew he would be in the SO and try that move; glad it worked for him and the Bears

Perreault and Alzner have a point in each of the 3 games

Bears are 3-0 - the rookies to date:

- Varlamov tallies his first win
- Perreault 2g and 2a, +2
- Osala 1g, +2
- Bouchard 1g, +2 (2gp)
- Godfrey 1a, -1, 19PIMs (2gp)
- Alzner 3a, +2

Bears stats to date

Is there a video of this somewhere online? I know the local news in Hampton Roads plays some video highlights, but I don't know if it's available online.

Dubuc and Lacroix assigned to SC...but still 9D with Hershey so I assume there will be a D reassignment, too

Stingrays opens on Oct 18 and then doesn't play again until the next weekend - Fri. Oct 24 and Sat. Oct 25

Hershey plays Fri. Oct 17 at Phi, Sat home opener against Syracuse, and Sun at home against WBS

Pretty much a question of whether it was going to be Mink or Aucoin; congrats to Aucoin

Leone had a blog update today about the Bears and indicated that Collins is likely to play in his first game Friday night

I wonder if the Bears can produce a leading scorer in the AHL? They have only ever had 7 of them (last one coming in 99-00 with Christian Matte and his 104 point effort).

The last few years of this affiliation the teams have been so balanced (and is again this season)...but that top line could end up being very dominate.

With Aucoin centering Giroux and Mink, it's possible, but so many factors like injuries, call-ups, etc., plus the point you make about the balance, this is a deep team, e.g., the second line is Bourque Wilson Gordon.

Only one week and 3 games, but per Leone: "Hershey has three of the top five scorers in the AHL. Aucoin (seven) is first, Graham Mink (six) is second and Chris Bourque (five) is tied for third"

also, Leone's write-up about today's practice

Bears play 3 in 3 starting Friday

Friday at Philly: Varlamov expected to start
Sat home opener against Syracuse: Machesney expected to start
Sun at home against WBS: starter to be named

also, Leone has the lines posted as follows, but says he expects Reid to play

Giroux-Aucoin-Mink
Bourque-Wilson-Gordon
Laing Beagle Reid
Osala-Perreault-Bouchard

(I think he missed a line when he posted; I am guessing the third line will be the one I posted, but also think against Philly, they could want G. McNeill (or maybe Pinizzotto) in the line-up on the 4th line)

Sloan-Helmer
Alzner-Lepisto
Arsene-Collins

likely scratches for Friday night's game based on the lines posted by Leone assuming he forgot to type the third line: (I assume this is the 5th line for now, but against Philly, I could see the need for G. McNeill to be in the line-up) G. McNeill-Joudrey-Pinizzotto, P. McNeill, Amadio, Godfrey, Neuvirth

link

and a Leone article from the other day about Perreault and the rookie line of Osala Perreault and Bouchard

Several rookies contribute to Bears' early success

edit: Leone updated to show the missing line

Stingrays open Sat night at home:

looks like the first line might be Dubuc Morin Lacroix

note about Pokulok: "Defensively, the Rays are better right now, no question. Sasha Pokulok has come into camp in great shape – he must have lost at least 20 pounds. The phrase I keep hearing about Pok is that he’s “a man among boys” during practices."

Rays blog update

edit: looks like Dovgan is on IR to start the season; perhaps we will learn more with the Rays preview articles in tomorrow's paper
ink to ECHL rosters including a few former Caps prospects

with Bourque called up, Joudrey in the line-up tonight playing on the line with Wilson and Gordon

Neuvirth assigned to SC according to pennlive; also Stingrays name Brad Farynuk captain and Kiser and Morin wearing the As

link and Bednar interview

Hershey game: 2-1 Phantoms at the end of the first, Gordon with the Hershey goal, beginning and end of the first bookended by Reid having encounters with his old team; goalies are Aubin and Varlamov; second period: goals by Laing and Giroux, but seconds after Giroux's goal, Phantoms tie it up on a goal by former Bear, Syvret, tied 3-3 (Collins and Arsene with their first points of the season), Bears make many trips to the box, Phantoms up 4-3 end of 2; third period, Osala ties it 4-4 with a goal assisted by Perreault and Collins; ha at the Walton call with Arsene putting the Bears ahead and that was before Leone told him it completed the Gordie Howe hat trick, assist to Beagle
