Paid the $6.00 to watch the game. One of the scariest games I've every seen. The refs didn't call anything. The guys just run you. A lot of hooking and stick work. If the Hershey Bears out score their opponents that badly you will see our guys getting injured as the other teams get frustrated. The skill level on the whole did not look any better than major junior.
IMO, the Caps were a better team with Bourque and Alzner.
The team the Caps fielded tonight was clearly not as good as the team that went 5-1-1 in the preseason.
I don't think Bourque plays the kind of minutes in the regular season that he did in the preseason if he's on the big club. For instance--if Flash were getting the same minutes he was, I pretty much guarantee you he would have scored tonight.
Alzner...well... it's early, but let's get him up, shall we?
With Aucoin centering Giroux and Mink, it's possible, but so many factors like injuries, call-ups, etc., plus the point you make about the balance, this is a deep team, e.g., the second line is Bourque Wilson Gordon.
Only one week and 3 games, but per Leone: "Hershey has three of the top five scorers in the AHL. Aucoin (seven) is first, Graham Mink (six) is second and Chris Bourque (five) is tied for third"
(I think he missed a line when he posted; I am guessing the third line will be the one I posted, but also think against Philly, they could want G. McNeill (or maybe Pinizzotto) in the line-up on the 4th line)
likely scratches for Friday night's game based on the lines posted by Leone assuming he forgot to type the third line: (I assume this is the 5th line for now, but against Philly, I could see the need for G. McNeill to be in the line-up) G. McNeill-Joudrey-Pinizzotto, P. McNeill, Amadio, Godfrey, Neuvirth
looks like the first line might be Dubuc Morin Lacroix
note about Pokulok: "Defensively, the Rays are better right now, no question. Sasha Pokulok has come into camp in great shape – he must have lost at least 20 pounds. The phrase I keep hearing about Pok is that he’s “a man among boys” during practices."
Hershey game: 2-1 Phantoms at the end of the first, Gordon with the Hershey goal, beginning and end of the first bookended by Reid having encounters with his old team; goalies are Aubin and Varlamov; second period: goals by Laing and Giroux, but seconds after Giroux's goal, Phantoms tie it up on a goal by former Bear, Syvret, tied 3-3 (Collins and Arsene with their first points of the season), Bears make many trips to the box, Phantoms up 4-3 end of 2; third period, Osala ties it 4-4 with a goal assisted by Perreault and Collins; ha at the Walton call with Arsene putting the Bears ahead and that was before Leone told him it completed the Gordie Howe hat trick, assist to Beagle
