Chris Therien is not a credible source.

Rathje and Hatcher won't be on the team.

Now they're 3 under.

Plus, Jones would likely be included in any deal.

I don't think 5.5 million will be enough to sign him these days.

Salary would obviously be going the other way in the form of Lupul/Upshall/Knuble/Others.

Flyers currently sit $2 million over (Rathje contract does and will not count) with Hatcher.

When Hatcher goes on LTIR (per Homer yesterday) they will be $1.5 million under.

When did he become a source? All he does is combined internet articles in one spot.

I would imagine Simon Gagne would be in the deal. Along with Jones or Parent. With a prospects/picks.

that is precisely why the flyers probably won't get bouwmeester. besides, i think FLA would prefer to acquire a center, which the flyers simply don't have for trade. unless briere would waive his NMC for florida, jbo stays in FLA.

He's young enough to still be a building-block player, and I could easily see the Flyers going all out to try to craft a deal that could bring him into the fold -- even if that means re-doing other parts of the long-term plan.

Be aware, however, that acquiring Bouwmeester would come at a very steep premium. It would require the Flyers to outbid several other clubs, which will drive an already high price tag that much higher.

Acquiring Bouwmeester would mean that some combination of established younger players (Lupul, Upshall), well-regarded prospects (Parent) high end draft picks, and/or a centerpiece prospect (James vanRiemsdyk or perhaps even Claude Giroux) would have to be up for discussion in different package possibilities.

Would that be worth the Flyers while? I'd say yes, although obviously there are limits on how much they can or should do. But don't fool yourself -- the Flyers can't trade for a player the caliber of Jay Bouwmeester (who still hasn't even fully realized his potential) without giving up at least one player they'd consider untouchable in most other deals.

Bottom line: There's going to be endless Bouwmeester rumors until something actually happens, and Florida either trades him or convinces him to stay. The Flyers will clearly be one of the clubs that come up in many of the rumors.
Now I'll believe that we're in the running for Jay-Bo.

Whatever it'd take to get him to Philly, I feel the price is too high...

Probably not gonna happen. And if it does, man... Panthers would sign their own death-sentence, pretty much.

If Jbou leaves next year as a UFA, would that be unsigning their own death-sentence?

Now is the time to get best value, assuming Jbou intends to leave and all signs point to this

JBO will be traded between now and the trade deadline. He didn't sign any offer sheets because JBO knew that Florida would match and he'd be stuck there. Since he came there in 2002, Florida hasn't made the playoffs and he is fed up. By the trade deadline, he's a goner.

I would say Jeff Carter would be the price that has to be paid by the Flyers to land Bouwmeester.

Those two in the same sentence is a mistake. Garrioch is a liar who makes up ******** rumours, Spector relays the ******** rumours and rips on their credibility.

Agreed. Im beginning to wonder if it was always Floridas intention to trade Jokinen for a few Dmen, and then turn around and trade J-Bo for a forward, as Im sure they suspected he was going to leave barring a huge turnaround.

Whether its with Philly or another team, I would expect Florida to acquire a young, impact forward in return, and obviously put young centers at the top of their list.

What would the cost range of a contract extension be for him?
