OT- Total Confusion

I bought Margarine at the grocery store today, and it was yellow. Isn't yellow the color of butter? I'm all confused. I can't believe it's not butter!

So it's become yellow again? Shocking! What's gonna happen to butter producers now?

Yes! It's yellow dude!!!! The margarine sold in all groceries, all across the Province, from Gaspé to Rouyn, en passant par La Tuque and Russeltown, is now yellow.

I can't believe it... but it's not butter!

For the people living outside Quebec, so that you can understand the point of this thread: until very recently, it was illegal to sell in Quebec margarine that had the same color as butter. All the margarine sold in Quebec was white. But they changed the law 'cause it didn't make any sense anymore, and big businesses were whining they had to change the color of their products just to accommodate the Quebec market.

So our margarine is now yellow. Just like butter.

Actually, the margarine in Quebec was white for ages (Quebec's F&D Authority regulations). As anarmandaleb stated, the margarine is now the same color as butter. It's a hell of a change!

Maybe we'll finally get some of that in Quebec, I've had to smuggle that stuff in for ages.

They just removed the law that forced producers to make it white to sell it in Quebec. Producers will still make it white here. So I'm pretty sure you will get white margarine most of the time and yellow from time to time like it has been for years.

Just to add that margarine was white so restaurants among other things couldn't pass margarine as butter. It's something dairy farmers fought for.

Would you please stop Daniel Brigas'ing this thread?
And where's Ozymandias... He could argue on what I bolded in your post.

You know I'm kidding, don't you?

There's something incredibly creepy about stuff that can sit in your fridge for an entire year and remain completely unchanged.
