Edm/atl

To EDM: Kovalchuck

To ATL: Horcoff/Cogliano/Smid

I"m sure this proposal will get torn apart by everyone but I think it makes sense.

Edmonton gets a bonified first line Sniper with two years on his contract. They can afford to give up 3 roster players as there is a log jam at forward and defense.

Atlanta gets 3 roster players for less money then Kovalchuk. A top line player to replace Kovalchuck and two decent young up and comers to help with their rebuild.

Atlanta could get a better package than that for Kovalchuck.

Several things upon seeing this proposal

I think the value isnt bad (Edmonton still wins the deal), but a few players could be changed, namely:

it would be best not to trade BOTH Horcoff AND Cogliano, who are both centers

If Atlanta is going into the full rebuild, than I doubt that they want Horcoff, given his age, so you may want to look at trading Gagner

I will counter with
Gagner, Penner, Smid for Kovalchuk

But your proposal certainly isnt bad, just a minor critique

If Kovalchuk were on the block, somebody could put together a better package.

Could the Thrashers get more? Maybe.

The Thrashers are getting a very nice return here, though I would prefer the 2nd offer someone made. A C, and W, and a D.

They might get more for Kovalchuk, but I wouldn't count on it. When was the last time anyone got a return equal or better to this? (Hossa for Heatley doesn't count)

Not many people like Penner (from what I hear) I'm sure they'd be happy for you to take him off their hands haha

I don't think the Oilers should give up both Horcoff and Cogs because they are both centers. Take one of them out and put in Nilsson, Penner or Cole, and add a draft pick maybe?

Penner is overpaid. Doesnt make sense for Atlanta

They'd probably want something like Gagner/Nilsson/Chorney

You've gotta give a lot if you want the 2nd best goal scorer in the league.

Only problem is salary. We'd need to add in Penner's in order to afford Kovy, unless the Thrashers wanted Souray.

Penner, Gagner, Chorney I'd have to think long and hard about.

Kovalchuk-Horcoff-Hemsky
Cole-Cogliano-Brule
Moreau-Brodziak-Pisani
Nilsson-Pouliot-Schremp

Yeah, that's an awesome roster.

That changes absolutely nothing. Not every GM is as stupid as he was. If Kovy were put on the block he would get a huge return.

Please Post a trade other that Hossa - Heatley where value was good when a star player was being moved

Value is moderately fair.

But Edmonton becomes a worse team with this trade. They lose their best faceoff man, best PKer, and #1 centre, lose a second line forward who will one day be one of their best PKers and potentially a #1 centre, and they lose their best young stay at home d-man. Sure, it upgrades the offense, but looking at the Oilers, offense isn't what needs an upgrade.

Makes no sense for the Oil to do this. Even though the value is probably in the Oilers' favor, it makes Atlanta a better team and Edmonton a much worse one.

the plan is to have the 3 on the same line

But yeh... Gagner will probably have to go the other way if Kovalchuk is coming to EDM

Hell no.

The entire Oilers roster for Kovy would be a steal for Edmonton. Kovy certainly won't go there for that crap.

So you honestly believe Kovy is worth MORE THAN Horcoff, Gagner, Cogliano, Nilsson, Hemsky, Gilbert, Lubo, Grebeshkov, Smid, Chorney, Petry, Nash, and Schremp combined? Wow...that's some opinion you've got there...at that price good luck getting a good return for Kovy if he wants out. Just look at the return Jokinen got for Florida.
