Igor Makarov?

I can't find the link but some said the kid was dynomite at prospects camp this summer. What is his deal? Is he coming to N. America? Will he play in AHL or NHL? Does he fit on this team? What kind of skill set does he have?

Thanks in advance.

Coming to camp. If he makes the team (or comes close), he'll sign. If not, he'll probably go back to Russia for one more season.

+1 for what JayzinSmith said.

He looked good in prospect camp. Too bad there's no slot for him on the team right now. If/when Havlat goes down, that changes immensely, it would probably be in his best interest to stick around for a while.

will he really be at the camp? he's on SKA St. Petersburgs roster for 08/09 and playing in todays game against Metallurg Magnitorsk. Won't going to camp and maybe signing with the Blackhawks the "pact to respect player contracts across all borders" (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=243045)?

It was my understanding that Makarov is not contracted to anyone in the RSL this year however i may be wrong. There have been numerous sources including Makarov himself that have said that he will attend the pre-season camp.

Well, if he's playing for SKA St. Petersburg, he needs some kind of contract, right? Otherwise he's playing for free.

Is there something in the KHL bylaws that prohibits NHL out clauses?

well there's still no real transfer agreement (it's just a mutual agreement to not sign people which are signed to a team in the other league) so I can't see there beeing any NHL out clauses. I'll guess we'll see if he's at the camp in a couple of weeks...

I'm not sure how many restrictions the KSL has on the types of contracts allowed to be negotiated between clubs and players. If not otherwise prohibited, Makarov could negotiate whatever terms he wants.

Maybe Makarov is on a game-by-game deal with his KSL club for preseason.

Makarov played with SKA in first tour of KHL. You can write him off for this season.

Unless he has an out-clause in his contract...

There is no agreement right now with the KHL...as witnessed by the recent CBJ signing...

Apparently the NHL is hellbent on signing players away from the KHL...because they are so upset about the Rads situation...

It will be interesting to see what happens after the IIHF and Meds have their little sit down tomorrow.

Makarov is listed on Chicago's training camp roster so maybe he has some sort of out clause?

Perfect!!! I actually believe he has a chance of making the team this year as a 3rd line right winger. Apparently, he was the best player on the ice in the rookie camp, skating circles around most other guys.

Plus, I think the Hawks don't want him to go back and sign a contract in the KHL. They might not be willing to risk losing him for good and he has already stated that if they put him in the AHL, he'll go back to Russia.

interesting but confusing. they need to put together a proper transfer agreement. right now there seems to be no way of knowing the contract status for Russian players.

Nah. He should make the team if it's feasible from a salary cap perspective.

No he wasn't going to be in the first round of cuts. He has apparently restarted practice and will maybe get his chance against Minnesota on Tuesday.

His camp started off strong and went down hill. I'm expecting him to be in the next round of cuts.
