I see a lot of them being proposed around here....Just wondering if anyone knows how many actually happened in the NHL so far.

CHI/SJ/OTT just a couple years ago. They're uncommon.

That's like the only "major" one that happened post-lockout, I think.

I know that Boston, Atlanta and Pittsburgh completed a 3-way trade in the late 70's. Boston traded Gregg Sheppard to Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh traded Jean Pronovost to Atlanta and Atlanta traded Dick Redmond to Boston.

EDIT - Just checked and this trade was completed on September 6 - 1978.

Montreal got Radek Bonk off Ottawa. I think the deal was:

Ottawa deals Bonk to LA for a 4th
LA turns around deal Bonk + Cristobal Huet to MTL for a 4th and Mathieu Garon

So in the end OTT got a 4th for Bonk
LA got Garon and a 4th for Huet
and Montreal got Bonk + Huet for Garon a 4th.

I think everybody wins. Bonk was good in his short stint and Huet broke out here, making Theodore expendable. The organisation wanted to give Garon a fresh start in a place where he could start.

The Havlat one is the last one that i remember.

Chicago traded Bell to San Jose for Hennessy and Preissing

Chicago then traded Hennessy, Preissing, Barinka and a 09 2nd round pick for Havlat and Smolinski.

I can't remember how it actually worked, but the draft day trade of Cammalleri to Calgary was actually a 3 way trade involving the Ducks.

Preds have been involved in a couple since the lockout, one involving Danny Markov (the details of which I don't quite remember), and the other one:

To NYR: Adam Hall
To NSH: 2007 3rd round pick (Ryan Thang)
To PIT: Libor Pivko, Dominic Moore (acquired from NYR via NSH)

Ok, had 2 trades mixed up but it was a 3 way between the Rangers/Hawks/Whalers.

Steve Larmer:
1993-Nov-02 Traded from Chicago Blackhawks with Bryan Marchment to Hartford Whalers for Patrick Poulin and Eric Weinrich
1993-Nov-02 Traded from Hartford Whalers with Nick Kypreos, Barry Richter and round 6 pick in the 1994 draft (Yuri Litvinov) to New York Rangers for James Patrick and Darren Turcotte
