Two words come to mind: lateral move.

Makes no sense for either team. Brule has more offensive potential obviously but that's not Lapierre's role, he's there to piss off other players, which he does decently enough.

I think we need a Lapierre type more than we need a Brule type, at this point. And I think the opposite is true for the Oilers. So I don't think either team is interested.

Lateral move that both team would'nt do.

Lapierre did fine with us and I'm looking foward to see how he'll do with George Laraque having his back.

Who's in your avatar? It's been bugging me.

Not sure the trade makes sense for either team. Brule's no more ready to take on our 3rd line than Chipchura is.

Lateral move? Has Brule stock fell that low?

I mean, Lapierre is fine, but he's easily replaceable. Brule at last as, you know, actual offensive potential instead of being a perenial 4th liner.

This would be an example of making a deal just for the hell of it. This deal would have no real tangible positive impact on either team, so why do it?

I'm not using this as any kind of pro-Lapierre/anti-Brule argument but Lapierre actually scored twice as many points as Brule in a few less games last year which sort of blew my mind when I first realized it.

But of course, Brule is two years younger and had god-knows-who on his line in Columbus.

Yes, Brule's stock HAS fallen that low. Lapierre has produced more goals and two fewer points than Brule in 45 fewer NHL games.

Brule is a career bottom six forward, most likely a 4th line center.

My thoughts exactly. As a Habs' fan, I'd do it in a heartbeat... not so sure Kevin Lowe would do it though.

Brule just failed under Hitchcock's system. He just wouldn't get any ice time.

Where do I sign??????

How can somebody call Brule a career bottom 6 player and 4th line centre, he's 21 For christ's sake. Give him some ice-time to get his confidence back, give him decent linemates, and he might blossom.

I'd do this trade every day of the week and twice on sunday. And I really like Lapierre.

You replace Lapierre for someone who has much more offensive potential and talent, furthermore you finally have a right-handed forward with some decent offensive potential to play on your 5-on-3 and 2nd PP unit, and perhaps later on your top 2 lines.

I'd take the gamble. Worst case scenario, he becomes a very good checking line player, exactly what lapierre will be.
