Good game. Lots of offense, good entertaining. There's no reason to get worked about defensive coverage in a tournament like this. Keetley was good and the Flames to 2-0 and only let in I think 3 goals in 2 games.
Just got back from the game. Faster pace than last night, but less physical. To tired to give a report so I'll do that tomorrow after work. Here are the pictures I took for those interested. http://s205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ie%20Game%202/
Also any word on Irving yet? Was really looking forward to seeing him play. Hopefully it isn't a injury.
Is it not way to early in camp to be making any declarations on Backlund? Would he not still be jetlagged as he only arrived in Calgary late last week had the fitness tests on Friday and had what one practice, before heading to Camrose. Just think about it would you not say after you put that all together that he looked pretty good.
I didn't even see that puck go in in the third van goal....
(In case you're seriously asking)
Grabner is a former teammate of Mitch Wahl. Selected in the first round (14th overall) by the Canucks in 2007. Dominated when he was on his game in the WHL - should be on the Canucks' team this year and IMO should develop into an elite goal scorer in the NHL if he can round out his game.
Good to hear Mitch Wahl is doing well for you guys. When does your rookie camp end? Will the Chiefs see him back before Thursday night's (9/18) season opener in Cranbrook? We are going to be hurting if we don't get some of our guys back soon.

I didn't really understand the coaches' explination. They said they stuck to the original plan they had including Lalande. Does that mean they were only going to play Irving for a period and Lalande for 2? I don't get it.

I only saw the second game and unfortunately for the first 55 or so minutes of the game he was invisible. I had to really keep an eye out for him to notice him at all. I've never seen a guy with a goal and an assist have a more quiet night. The other poster said it correctly, that Canucks 7th rounder was awful. And given that it is the off season and he should be fresh, I would never say a 19 year old like Backlund would be fatigued. That's not a horrendous travel schedule at all. Hopefully he has a better camp than he had a game last night.
How did Matt Keetley and Gordie...err....GORD Baldwin look?
Keetley looked good over both games, should be the starter this year in QC but then I guess one never really knows. Baldwin was quiet which is a good thing, you hardly want to notice a Defensive-Defensman at least I think so.

The Flames org. tends to keep quiet regarding injuries, as you should know Cactus Jack. We'll find out sooner or later if Irving is hurt or was pulled as a precaution because of the bad ice? Flu?

Backlund was better in the first game and I thought was almost trying way do way too much last night. He also said that he was feeling jetlaged on Sunday. My point Catus Jack is that it is too early to say he is not ready and send him back home as some posters were.
I never said he wasn't ready, I just said he had a very pedestrian game and that you wouldn't think he'd be jet lagged and tired at this time of the year before training camp even starts.

I never said you did, in fact I believe I just said "posters".
Hey, jetlag effects everyone differently, no matter age or health. Backlund will learn to read his body better in the future and plan his returns to Calgary sooner so that the jetlag will not be an issue.
Julien Ellis ended up getting a high ankle sprain injury
Hopefully Irving doesn't have anything as horrible.
Ouch, high ankle sprains are just awful. That is why Lalande didn't get any game action, hit a rut in the ice. As for Irving:

The Flames got some good news today as Leland Irving, who was seen limping out of the Camrose rink Monday night after playing a single period of rookie-game match against the Vancouver Canucks, practised at full steam. Also, forward Kyle Greentree -- who was shoved head-first into the boards by Oilers prospect Geoff Paukovich on Sunday -- looked fine as he took part in the noon workout.
dont you guys own the rights to Devin DiDiomete? if so, why wasnt he at camp?
Didn't sign him to a contract this offseason. He is a free agent now.

Absolutely. It was just two games. Was a bit quiet, but you can definetly tell he has the skill and smarts to be a very good player. It'll be interesting to see how he does with NHL linemates. I'm sure he'll get a long look at camp and if he can prove himself he may be able to force himself on the team.

Keetley looked very good both nights. Great position goalie that can make the desperation save when he needs to. Really high on him. Him and irving will be a great tandem down in Quad Cities. Baldwin was solid. Pretty much what you would expect out of a defensive defencemen. Smart decisions with the puck, decent speed for a guy his size and physical. Really like how our defence is shaping up for the future. Pelech, Aulie and Baldwin are all big tough defencemen.
The diagnosis was a strained neck, but he was good to go already.
"I think we're all pleasantly surprised," Fleming said. "I know he was feeling good (Monday), with the therapy stuff right away, and he was raring to go this morning, competed hard and, as of right now, is feeling no effects."
Hey this is a bit old now, meant to post last week and forgot...
We had Jamie Thomas on the show to talk Flames rookie-wannabes for this season. Like me, he's a big fan of the goalies but I'm interested to hear your take on some of the other things we touch on.

my brief take on the CGY/EDM game: two best Flames were keetley (by far) and Wahl. I was fairly disappointed in Backlund, barely noticed him accomplish anything.
