I was under the impression that both other guys are also in their final contract years.

Uhh, so are the other two.

However it's about $9M in added cap.. so we'd for sure have to move Bouillon and Dandenault.

you cant have lang+schneider, their cap hit is 4+5.6=9,6 which is more than the habs have, for that matter you need to TRADE for both of them so you would need to give up some elements.

Sundin, fits the need the best, costs us no assets.

My bad,I was sure Schneider was signed for 2 more years.

I would still take Sundin though, and keep 3-4 million for the deadline

All 3 would fit one way or the other, but I take Sundin. The whole idea is to get a better best player. It's not even purely a question of a rh C with size though it helps. Sundin is still elite and would be a perefect fit. There aren't any obvious holes in his game yet while you could see how Schneider and Lang have become more situational, kind of like Koivu is becoming.

The first addresses two issues, while the second only addresses one...I'd take the first line up anyday.

My thoughts exactly, but the other option is a good plan B IMO.

On the other hand, the 2nd addresses one of the issues in a much better fashion.

The 2nd would also cost no assets (other than players we'd have to waive or dump to clear the bit of cap space needed) and less money cap-wise, allowing the team to address the defense issue at the trade deadline.

That being said, I'd be happy with either and at the same time, can't see either happening.

Sundin or bust for me, if Lurch goes elsewhere then I would prefer Bob go with what he's got and evaluate in December/January barring a colossal failure out of the gates.

I would prefer Sundin, because getting him wouldnt cost us trading assets. Just that teams are having cap problem doesnt mean they hand their players free.

Robert Lang + Mathieu Schneider if the price isn't too much. I think it would make our team more well rounded.

Sundin, because Schneider and Lang will not be the player who will made you win by themself.

Sundin is the dominate centre we need, but with lang and Schneider we get some added depth at forward and D.

I'd go with Sundin, but lang and Schneider isn't too bad.

Unsolicited option- keep the extra cap space. Alone it's a valuable asset. The Habs have improved the team already and don't need these players who are yielding diminishing returns. Cap space is the most flexible of assets. If we can't find internal solutions, our cap space gives us the luxury of time, allowing us to wait for other clubs to be forced to move. Best to wait things out a bit.

Also worth considering, and not news to anyone here... Although Gainey has made it policy not to negotiate during the season, we'll have a lot of expiring contracts to handle at the end of the year. This could be quite stressful and could be damanging in and of itself. To avoid some of the stress, we could see an extension or two this year. Another reason why it's best to wait things out a bit

I prefer Sundin to Schneider + Lang. I also prefer Schneider to Schneider + Lang. I don't think Lang is what we need IMO.
