Kings sign Vyatcheslav Voinov & Andrei Loktionov

http://kings.nhl.com/team/app/?servi...ticleid=380555

Standard Three Year, Entry-Level Deals.

2008 2nd Round Pick (32nd) - D, Vyatcheslav Voinov
2008 5th Round Pick (123rd) - F, Andrei Loktionov

Both are elligible for the AHL being that they're Euros but both are expected to go to their respective CHL clubs for the upcoming season, leaving their home country for the first time. Both have already verbally expressed their desire to play in North America.

Voinov was selected 5th overall by the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL in the 08 CHL Import Draft.
Lohktionov was selected 7th overall and will play for Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.

Hey, what do you know, Lombardi is still our GM.

Can't wait to see what Voinov does in the OHL next year.

I'm pretty sure he meant to say "respective CHL clubs".

Good move by Kings.

I think this is more or less trying to prevent them from getting caught up in the KHL mess.

Voinov is very underrated everywhere and I hope he proves himself [even more] where ever he plays in NA.

I'm sure he will. One of my favorite defensive prospects.

Of course, he is, he doesn't sign Russians until he makes them sign their names in blood on their statements that they are coming to North America.

Two Russians on the same day?

I like them both, but these are not their top end prospects nor are they NHL ready. Had they been from Red Deer, these kids wouldn't be getting NHL contracts. Not yet anyway.

Voinov was borderline first round pick. If he was from Red Deer he'd have gone 10th overall.

Ya and if he wasnt drafted by the kings he would have probably dropped a few more rounds.
A little OT, but can someone explain to me why these guys signed if they are just going to play junior. Wouldn't it make more sense to wait until the junior season is over to sign so that you are guaranteed to be getting paid for 3 years instead of wasting a year not getting paid in junior? What is the logic behind this?

The Kings knew before the draft that both guys were willing to come to NA, that's why they drafted them. I mean it was a shock for us Kings fans because Lombardi never drafts Russians. But he must've really liked these kids, and supposedly they only wanted to come to L.A. Just a perfect fit.

The contracts are automatically extended an additional year until the players turn 20 or play in a pro league. So if neither of these guys play in the AHL/NHL before they are 20 the contracts will remain three years long.

Is Voinov more of an offensive defensemen or no?

His talent analysis on HF reminds me of Jay Bouwmeester. Very responsible in his own end, can hit, can move the puck, and can QB the PP.

Am I on the right track here, or not even close?

Why all the love for Vionov and not a lot in ehre about Loktionov? The kid's read sounds like he's got a great head on his shoulders and last i read he was getting trained by one of the best Russians of all time, Igor Larionov. Why no love?

Probably because he is an unknown. Watching their progression is going to be fun. The organization must think highly of Loktionov.

Not that high potential-wise, but close style-wise

Well, I was going for more of a style of game rather than a potential comparison anyways.

Thanks.

It's gonna be interesting to see Loktionov come to Owen Sound, since we traded that pick to Windsor... Pekarik better be worth it DeGrey

Voinov doesn't have the the skating skills of Bouwmeester, but he's more physical.

Voinov (style wise) reminds me a lot of a more physical Teppo Numminen.
