Voinov is there 4th best d-man prospect behind Doughty, Hickey & Teubert, with Martinez falling in 5th. He is one of there top end prospects. Did the KHL have an affect on the Kings signing them? Probably, but not as much as you might think, because of there desire to play in North America.
These guys want to play in the NHL, and will go through the steps of juniors, AHL, then to the NHL. That's one of the main reasons, besides there talents, the Kings grabbed them in the draft, there desire to play in North America.
You say that if they were from Red Deer they wouldn't be signed yet. Bernier, Doughty, Hickey, Simmonds, etc. were all signed the year they were drafted. It's about getting your assets signed and not having to worry about it when they are ready to make the jump to the AHL or NHL.

Im pumped to see Loktionov in Windsor. Should be a huge piece of the puzzle, especially since he is signed by LA now.

Many posters on this board are under the misconception that signing an NHL contract while playing in juniors causes the team to lose a year on the contract. In reality this is not the case. So if these posters were better informed they would realize that signing these players (even though they are not yet NHL ready) is not a huge deal.

Voinov showed desire that he wanted to play in the CHL next season.

Voinov is just as good, if not better, than the defensemen taken mid-first round (Karlsson, Myers, Teubert). If he were from Red Deer, and didn't have an "ov" at the end of his name, he would have been taken much higher.

Lombardi did his work with that kid. He's signed, underrated, and committed to playing in NA.

Lets wait and see.

Many other defensemen were taken ahead of him. Nobody says he won't be that good or even better but those are the facts right now.

Haha nice...that makes me wanting to post "Put the Loktionov in the basket" useless now.

Voinov (style wise) reminds me a lot of a more physical Teppo Numminen.
He is not that positionnaly sound. Maybe Tverdovsky comparison would be better?
