Flames - Thrashers

I was noticing the Thrashers have a lot of cap space and while off hand I do not know the floor I believe I have read they are below that mark... would they have any interest in a deal like this?

to Calgary:

LW - Spencer Machacek

to Atlanta:

LW - Marcus Nilson
D - Anders Eriksson
3rd round pick

the Flames would dump 2.5 million in cap hits... and the Thrashers would get a 3rd for a mid level prospect as well as reach the cap floor

Good young prospect for guys that are waiver material.

I don't think you'll get a good response...

Now, Nilsson, and Eriksson are nice depth players, but not the kind you trade for a player with that much potential, maybe if he falls off, then maybe. But, right now, no chance.

A counter for that proposal might be a 7th rounder just for taking on salary to Atlanta.

Would you trade Dustin Boyd for Jim Slater and Brad Larsen?

I would say 'good young prospect' is a bit of an overstatement... if he reaches his potential he will likely be a 3rd liner... and comparing the kid to Boyd is a real exaggeration... if you are going to compare him to Flames property it would be Chucko that is most like him in term of value and potential

and if the Flames were below the Cap floor i might consider Chucko for a 3rd, Larsen and Slater... but then again the Flames aren't below the cap floor and the Flames have a surplus of NHL caliber forwards and defensemen at the moment

atlanta doesnt really need defenseman judging from their projected lineup and i doubt they'd want or even need another 3rd liner in nilson. if the flames could get that and get rid of eriksson in the process that'd be awesome

atlanta fans wouldnt do it though

Isn't Nilson supposedly getting bought out because he wants to go play in Sweden? I swear I read that somewhere.

Valabik will count against the cap and also Bogosian, when he's signed. These two moves will push Atlanta over the salary cap floor!

Atlanta has a horrific depth on RW in the system. Machacek won't be dealt, especially for a bottom six player and borderline NHL Dman (we have plenty of them.)

So really it's a garbage salary dump for a good/decent prospect? Eriksson really isn't that good and everyone knows it. Especially Calgary Flames fans, and to say anything else would be a lie. Nilson is pretty good 3rd liner, but doesn't Atlanta have enough of those types of players? Or am I off base with that... I don't really know alot about Atlanta's line up this year.

This deal is doable so long as Atlanta has a legitimate need met I guess.

If the trade is anywhere near reasonable Atlanta would pass. They only make trades where they get bent over.

Except when trading for Kozlov, Savard, and dishing off Hossa.

When I first saw the title, I thought this would be an amusing proposal between the Atlanta Thrashers and the Atlanta Flames. Turned out to be a funny post anyway.

I just looked at their contract on NHLScap.com and it looks to me like they have a decent number of holes unless they plan on dressing several rookies
