Blocking the Lightning from poaching Meszaros will not prevent teams from going after Staal or others in the future. Only by getting those players signed will Shero do that.

Therefore, if Shero can get the Bolts to overpay for that 3rd round pick, he HAS to listen. His first mandate is to improve the Penguins, not do "the right thing" as per his viewpoint.

Becoming a pariah among GMs isn't in the best interest of the Penguins.

you are full on defense? The Blues website have 5 d's listed: Brewer, Jackman, McKee, E. Johnson and Woywitka. You are telling me Meszaros wouldn't crack that top 5?

I think JD would love to get Meszaros...

JD made it known this summer he's against offer sheets. He only sent that offer sheet to bernier to get back at gillis for backes.

We still don't know which team?

This is getting almost as annoying as the Sundin crap.

Get used to it for now, we won't know until at least Monday. The NHL takes weekends off.

And now Eklund says this...

Quote:
A source VERY in the know about the rumoured deal that would send a Tampa's former third rounder back to Tampa from Pittsburgh has denied any such deal has taken place.

What's important about this is that, at least for now, Tampa can't offer a sheet to Meszaros without that pick. That does not mean of course that Tampa and Ottawa can't work out another way, although I am still hearing NJ or Vancouver are more likely if an offer sheet is to be made
Validates what TIOPS said above...is Tampa really in this?

Shero doesn't have to trade anything for any reason... if someone offers him 100 1st round picks for that 3rd he still has the right to say no.

There's too much to this for it to not have something up. If I'm Pittsburgh and Tampa is so desperate for their 3rd round pick, I hold it hostage and make sure it's worth my while, especially since they got it for nothing. The OK corral down in Tampa might be finding out what happens to all those free spenders.

Why would Shero be the pariah...it's Tampa Bay's doing. Shero's just an innocent bystander. As if Bryan Murray wouldn't do the same thing if he were in Shero's position. This "old boys network" mentality is so 1980's. If Shero can get an overpayment from TB, he owes it to his organization to go against his own personal beliefs.

Ranger and Jokinen for Meszaros?

If Murray could pull a deal like that, I'd be ecstatic.

that would be a horrible deal for Tampa Bay. I think that Ranger is going to have a great year even as bad as Tampa's defense is.

i don't see how this trade would make Tampa a better team.

I saw a preview for Sportnet Connected and it said Mezaros is signed. But it does not say where.

I disagree, If i can get a deal that benefits my team I do it as opposed to playing hardball. Similar situation last season where the Islanders traded Edmonton's 3rd rounder back to them along with a minor league defenseman for Anaheim's 2nd rounder. Islanders could have held out for more but I was real happy with the deal(ironically we re-aquired Edmonton's 3rd rounder from Anaheim for Marc Andre Bergeron)

Did you just make up that trade or did TSN actually mention it?
