I'm confused here. Did Tampa just get his rights or did he sign?

Meszaros isn't nearly as bad as some Sens fans are saying. He wasn't great last season, and was at his best in his rookie year when he kept it simple, but he definitely has potential to be a legit top 4 for a long time. There was a time when everyone wanted to get rid of a young Anton Volchenkov but we didn't and he developed. I see it as a similar situation with Meszaros.

Kuba is nothing exciting, Picard is close but he's not a top prospect, and we get a late first round pick. An underwhelming return.

I still find it funny that Ottawa fans used to compare Meszaros to Dion Phaneuf. Think ol' Dion would fetch a little more than garbage like Kuba and late first rounder.

Two threads on this and Meszaros' name is mis-spelled in both titles.

I'll go on the record that I do not believe the Senators will make the playoffs.

I would hope not. He used to be of Phaneuf status until he was traded.

Sounds like this is just for his rights but you've got to think they're close on a contract, considering all the offer sheet talk.

They just have his rights, they still need to sign him and depending on whether or not they're the team that made the offer sheet that might not be so easy.

Why would a team in serious need of defenseman trade two decent defender for one?
I think Meszaros fits into their system they are going to install and the team outlook, so they went out and got him. They are probably going to be installing a offensive style of play and they like what he brings as far a offensive abilities and transistion qualities. In their minds they are cutting the fat of the team and trying to get a competitive and entertaining team together.

Man Tampa is just the ***** of the hockey universe, anyways that's a good trade for both sides.

Tampa now has a young core of dmen with potential, but no doubt will have some growing pains.

That's a pretty young defensive group.

Considering the fact that Meszaros likely wouldn't have signed with the Sens at this point anyway, it's a good return for them.

Tampa sure is a mover and shaker this summer.

For now, Meszaros isn't even that much of an upgrade on Kuba, who imo they needed to keep in order to seriously improve their defense. (unless there's more to come, which there will)

from Ottawa's side I think Bieksa for Vermette straight up would be acceptable, if only just to get a little offense on that blue line....but I would probably think they will go for Schneider first, just as Vancouver probably will...

so Anaheim fans be happy as suddenly Schneider suddenly has some value, certainly 2nd rounder + longshot prospect value

There was only one fan *ahemFuhr* comparing him to Phaneuf.

Meszaros played like Redden in the past 2 seasons which means he played like ****. I think Murray should have tried harder for TB's first though

You must not be very familiar to these boards than. Two seasons ago they liked to point out that Meszaros' offensive stats were on par with Dion's and that he had a higher defensive upside.

When Tampa get's Chara...Mesz will start to play well. Good deal for the Sens to be honest. We're gonna suck next year anyway.
