Duane Sutter on Flames prospects heading into 2008-09

Mitch Wahl:

Quote:
"He's a good kid and a really clever hockey player," said Duane Sutter, the team's new director of player development. "Obviously, he has a little bit of a feather in his hat, being on the Memorial Cup champions. Anytime you win a big team award like that, it certainly is something you can draw on and reach back on. Just to experience the adversity you go through, it'll be something he can draw back on for a long, long time."

Mikael Backlund:

Quote:
"He's a talented, talented kid," Duane Sutter said. "He'll come into the main camp and try to make the big club. He's good with the puck and a really smart player. He's a good skater. He's pretty much the whole package. He'll make some noise in camp."

John Negrin:

Quote:
"He's a pretty talented kid," Duane Sutter said. "For the life of me, I can't figure out why he was not invited to the initial tryouts with the World Junior team with Team Canada. He's trying to change their mindset, and hopefully he'll get another look come Christmas time."

Matt Pelech:

Quote:
"He went through his junior career with a lot of injuries," Duane Sutter said. "He got through last season healthy. This will probably be his most productive summer in quite some time. He's not NHL ready yet, but we see definite signs of progress."

T.J. Brodie:

Quote:
"He's a good skater," Duane Sutter said. "I've seen him play in Saginaw, and he's got good rink awareness. He moves the puck well. I don't think he'll be a big point-producing type guy, but I think he'll be a solid first-pass guy. He's capable of carrying the puck out of trouble."

Keith Aulie:

Quote:
"We're pretty excited about him," Duane Sutter said. "He's a big defenseman, a stay-at-home guy."

Alexander Deilert:

Quote:
"He's a talented, young guy," Duane Sutter said. "He's very competitive. He's a heck of an athlete. He has a good chance to play for Sweden in the World Junior tournament."

Kevin Lalande:

Quote:
"Anytime you can battle for a league title, obviously something's going pretty good," Duane Sutter said. "A lot of times, you can do your homework and find out pretty quickly it's got a lot to do with goaltending. I didn't see any of that finals series, but from what I'm told he had a pretty good run."

^^^^ I have high hopes for them all. It would be silly to write some of them off at this point.

So does anyone know what is up with Puustinen? I thought we lost his rights when we didn't resign him this offseason.

Hallelujah, we can agree on something

I think he'll be a good player for us years down the line, so fingers are crossed there.

Maybe because his big brother did it for him:

Quote:
"He's a big kid. He's got good hands and he likes to go to the net," the Flames' GM said. "We're looking forward to seeing him develop and hopefully, sooner than later, see him playing for us."
Maybe someone should read the link SR kindly provided.

Personally I hate Nashville for taking Tedenby.... I'd rather have him than Nemiez anyday.

It was the New Jersey Devils that drafted Mattias Tedenby. I'm sure of this because I recall cursing their name for about 5 minutes after they drafted him one pick before us.

I recall my first 8 words after NJ took Tedenby

**** X 8

Hopefully Nemisz is as good a pick as Tedenby and we're all proven wrong.

Poor Nemiez, seems he'll always be in Tedenby shadow.

Howdy all, first post here on HF, thought I would chime in.

I think the Flames got a steal in Wahl, I can't believe he was still on the board for the Flames selection. I thought for sure he would be picked up late in the first or early in the 2nd round, but anyways...

If I was a Flames fan, I would be pumped about Wahl, even moreso than Nemiez. I think he's gonna turn into a great player for you guys and exceed expectations. He has good hockey sense and is very competative... should be a good peice for the Flames lineup when/if he is ready for the big show.

I believe with the transfer agreement no longer in place the Flames may still have his rights. If someone knows more about this than I do, please correct me.

I wanted Tyler Ennis, I knew he'd be a late 1st round/early 2nd pick due to his size, but was picked just a few picks after Nemo. 90 points in 70 games is mighty impressive

After watching the two prospects games, I like Nemisz a lot more than I did a week ago.

He's actually pretty damn good. Nothing at all like Chucko. He'll be in the NHL within 3 years
