Ottawa - Detroit

To Ottawa: Mikael Samuelsson

To Detroit: OTT 2nd Round Pick in 2010, OTT 4th Round Pick in 2009

It is pretty self explanatory, the Sens get a top 6 forward to play with Vermette and Fisher and Detroit gets draft picks, yay to a bright future

If anything needs to be added from the Sens to make this work let me know

Why would Detroit do this?

Where we do sign?

This would free up money and room to let Helm, Abdelkader, Leino, or others to get a 12th forward spot at camp.

I wouldn't exactly call Samuelsson a top 6 guy.

The Wings will be over the cap once Holland signs everyone.

Probably not in the classic sense but he's been a consistent 40pt player with good defensive instincts and shows up in the playoffs. I won't go all Samuelsson slappy but he produces on par with most guys on the bottom part of the top 6.

To be fair, playing on a team like Detroit will boost your stats. Before he went to the Wings, he was averaging 9 points a year.

He can play on the 3rd line with Kelly and Foligno if Murray actually was serious that Winchester will play with Vermette and Fisher

And I consider him a top 6 forward, 40 points the last year on the 3rd line I think

This is what our lines would look like (Assuming Murray trades Neil and Schubert since there are no spots for them)

Heatley - Spezza - Alfredsson
Vermette - Fisher - Winchester
Foligno - Kelly - Samuelsson
Ruutu - Bass - Donovan

Phillips - Volchenkov
Kuba - Lee
Smith - Picard

Gerber
Auld

Looks solid, the 2nd and 3rd lines could both put up over 100 points and the 1st close to 300

This is a very reasonable proposal and I would do it on the part of the Red Wings. There is enough depth to replace what Samuelsson brings to the table, and the cap relief would be a welcome help.

And if he were averaging 40 points a year on a bad team with bad linemates he'd be cashing in. Guys like Samuelsson are essential to having good team depth and players who can be versatile enough to produce in any situation put in.

It's fair, but Ottawa might as well just put Kelly in the top 6, it's essentially the same

I'd do this as an Ottawa fan. Seems like fair value. Granted he might not put up 40 points on Ottawa but he's not going to be playing with garbage line mates either. I think he's at least going to pick up 25-30 points. The other important thing to note is that he's a RW and Ottawa has quite a few players that play LW.

I'd do it, but i'm sure the 2nd would be enough

Oh, and eff putting him with Vermette and Fisher. Play him with Alfie

Heatley - Spezza - Fisher
Samuelsson - Vermette - Alfredsson
Ruutu - Kelly - Neil
Foligno - Bass - Winchester/McAmmond/Donovan

If it's a 2nd in 2010, I'm sure the Wings would also want something in 2009. Having to wait 2 years to get a return on Sammy might be too long.

The best part is that Samuelsson is signed to a great contract at only 1.2 million

Any way we can toss a Lebda or Quincey in the mix as well? We're gonna have 10 NHL ready defensemen under contract...
