While I am tempted to say Teri Hatcher has as much of a chance at this stage, this is from a few days ago:

Glimmer of hope for Hatcher?

While it's a very long shot Derian Hatcher (knee) will play this year, Holmgren isn't ready to close the book on the veteran defenseman yet.

"Nothing's really changed with Derian,'' Holmgren said. "He comes in and works out. I would say the odds of Derian playing at all this year are not very good, but I'm never going to say 'never' because he's Derian Hatcher.''

Yeah, but....Chuck Norris always has a "chance" of doing ballet, because he is Chuck Norris. But you won't see Chuck Norris ever doing ballet. Because he is Chuck Norris.

Coatsey talked to him at the Carnival and Hatch said that the knees are not responding to anything they've tried. Doesn't sound good.

Beautiful.

As I said in another thread, I would love to have the option of dressing Hatch come playoff time.

Does the flyers stance on him have anything to do with the cap and how we're being "watched closely"? I honestly don't pay attention to cap stuff because the whole situation is infuriating.

Hopefully he's just saying what he has to say and we can bring him out like a selanne/niedermeyer type of thing for the playoffs.

what are the rules with players coming off ltir and the play offs vis a vis the cap. i think it used to be they had to play at least one game but im not exactly sure. the flyers would still need to clear the full amount of his cap hit right? this team has missed hatch and he exactly the kind of player we need (big stay at home d man)

The salary cap doesn't apply in the playoffs. Also, here is a link to LTIR:

Q: Does the salary cap apply in the playoffs?

A: The answer is no. This has been reported in a couple places, but the official reason I got from someone in the league office is this:

"At the end of the season, the Active Roster and Injured Reserve cease to exist; players cannot be placed on Injured Reserve during the playoffs, and there is no roster limit during the playoffs. Additionally, calculations for the purposes of determining compliance with the Upper Limit end upon the completion of the Regular Season. Therefore, a Club may use players whose Averaged Salaries exceed the Upper Limit during the playoffs - including any and all players who were designated for Long-Term Injured Reserve."

From what I understand, his season in Lethbridge needs to be concluded before he can be called up to the Flyers and yes, he can be added to the playoff roster without any cap restraints being applied

Here is a recent Sbisa update:

http://www.lethbridgehurricanes.com/
Quote:

Canes will look to fire back as series returns to Lethbridge
Calgary, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes fought hard but came away with the same result as they fell 2-1 to the Hitmen in Calgary on Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Luca Sbisa notched his second goal of the 2009 Playoffs to tie the game 1-1 through the second period. But in the end a game winner on the power play by Tomas Karpov lifted the Hitmen to the win. The Canes special teams were hard at work all afternoon as the power play went 0 for 4 while the penalty kill was forced to go 6 for 8 for a 75% kill ratio.

Sbisa was returned in February to the Canes after playing a total of 39 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers. Sbisa has 18 points (6G, 12A) and four PPG in 26 games since returning and has been a staple on the Canes blue line. He also notched the game winner in the series clinching game 7 of the Canes first round series against the Saskatoon Blades. Juha Metsola was the game's second star with 29 saves on the night; including several showstoppers on the power play to keep the game within reach.

Yeah I actually remember that interview. It really caught me off guard because usually when sports players are asked how their injuries are going they just spit out automatic responses about how "they are working hard to get back" or that they are at least optimistic about returning at some point. Hatcher's face just went blank and he basically said it's not looking good. It was actually kind of sad to watch.

Yeah Hatch was deffinitely a solid player... and a really nice guy (from what I got out of a short interaction I had with him last season). If he announces retirement, that will suck, but I'll be happy he retired with the Flyers.

I would love to see Hatcher back, especially if we can pair him back with Coburn. Unless we can give him mechanical legs, I don't think he will be back.

yeah, derian seems like a nice guy. his son's an ass though (played drop-in hockey with him two years ago)

for his sake, derian should just retire while he can still walk. another playoff series and he could be forced to walk with a sick stiletto cane with a sword inside and jewels on the pommel...damn, maybe he should play again.

Can we give him mechanical legs? That's probably our best option. He can be like the $6,000,000 man.
