Ducks/ATL/NYR

To Anaheim: Ilya Kovalchuk, Chris Drury

VS

To Atlanta: Francois Beauchemin, Petr Prucha, Ryan Getzlaf and Mark Mitera (Prospect)

To NYR: Todd Marchant and Colby Armstrong

Anaheim POV: Ilya Kovalchuk could be a nice add to Burke team. If you have Kovalchuk.. you don't need Selanne.. Drury replace Getzlaf plus he add some playoff experience and leadership.

Atlanta POV: They trade Kovalchuk for young but ready NHL player. They don't need something like Pronger..

NYR: I think NYR need some grit and offense.. Armstrong can be a solution.. He's better than Prucha.. plus clearing Drury salary is a good thing.. Marchant is your 3rd line center. Dubinsky on the 2nd.

x1000000. we trade Drury, our captain. for Todd Friggen Marchant, and Colby Armstrong. and to add on top of that we trade Prucha. wow, just wow....

Edit: I did not see Getzlaf in there so it definetly changes the POV from Anaheim and Atlants.

But the best part is Anaheim ends up with the 2 best players in the trade without giving up any picks or any core players.
Well they give up Getzlaf who may be equal to kovalchuk value-wise...other than that the trade is a complete joke!

No core players, Ryan Getzlaf is the core!

Plus we don't get the two best players, Getzlaf is way better than Drury.

How is Getzlaf not a core player?

Still, that doesn't change the fact that the Rangers get absolutely shafted in this deal. You claim that this deal give us offense? Drury led our team in goals last year and Prucha is only a year removed from a 22 goal campaign. Meanwhile we acquire a combined 50 points, when Drury in what was an off year put up 58 alone. We barely even free up salary with this trade, and just get older.

This would make more sense:

ANA gets: Kovalchuk, Drury, Mara
NYR gets: Beauchemin, Armstrong, Bobby Ryan
ATL gets: Getzlaf, Ana 1st in 09, Prucha

Still not great but better...IMO

ATL gets beat in this I know....

let me try this:

FROM:

ANA:
getzlaf, ryan

NYR:
drury, girardi, prucha, 3rd 09

ATL:
kovalchuk, armstrong

TO:

ANA:
kovalchuk, prucha, armstrong

NYR:
getzlaf, ryan

ATL:
drury, girardi, 3rd 09(NYR)

relatively fair deal all around

The original proposal made me giggle like a wee laddie. Stoopid stuff.

Here's a better one:

ANA gets: Ilya Kovalchuk, Super Powers to Breathe Under Water and the ability to channel Jim Morrison
ATL gets: Drury, Prucha, Getzlaf, NYR's 1st, and Lundqvist's pads
NYR gets: A sack of rocks and a gimpy pigeon.

They don't make enough Vaseline in a year to make New York take the original deal.

Getzlaf=signed to a 5 year contract at a good price
Kovalchuk=soon to be UFA

Getzlaf is also a more complete player.

my apologies, i think its a lot closer than the OP but i can see where you are coming from.....although it is easier to find someone who is a complete player than an offensive dynamo like kovalchuk.......also, kovalchuk is a very good all-around player....he pk's as well as scores 50+ goals a season

If Kovalchuk goes anywhere, I think it'll be the Rangers. in 2 years, i think that's whats going to happen. and it isn't just wishful thinking, it makes a lot of sense.

he's russian and they all love NY, the rangers will have a lot of good young players with a few years of experience on their hands, including some russians, plus other good prospects who will be ready for their first taste then, one of the best goalies in the league.

plus they'll have some seasoned veterans and in 2 years, naslund's deal is off the books, and i'm sure a few of the guys here now won't be by then, especially with all the capable young players stepping up over the next few years.

Oh yeah, and the original proposal is horrible for the Rangers. todd marchant carries hardly, if any, value.

How many GMs in the NHL would trade Getzlaf to get Kovalchuk? I say not many if any at all.

Getzlaf is our next captain and the core of our team. Signed long-term, while Ilya isn't and will be a HUGELY sought-after UFA in two seasons.

Drury is slightly overpaid long-term and while he would be a great Duck, he isn't fit to be their #1 Center. That creates a hole, not to mention breaks up Getzlaf-Perry.

Last, Getzlaf was a monster in the playoffs for our Cup win, it's not like Drury is an upgrade there since Getzlaf is far from being a choker.

Yeah but Center is a more important position and Getzlaf is just starting to emerge as an elite player. Kovalchuk may have more raw talent right now but when you combine contract status and the fact that Getzlaf has already proven himself in big games for the ducks...it's a trade they wouldn't make, and they're also losing their number 3 dman and best d prospect in the trade too.

stop making moronic proposals. anaheim is over the cap anyways. i dont really like trades where teams trade away more than 2 players from their "core".

Ok answer me this how is that a good thing, oh ya so they can sign Sundin. well has Sundin led a team his whole career yes has Drury yes, did Sundin have sucess leading the Leafs HELL NO, has Drury had sucess leading a Sabres YES if i was the GM of the Rangers i would tell Sundin I'm not interested and use the last 2 million od cap space and resign Shanny they need vetern wingers.

Now Burke take this trade and runs for the hills that laugh his ass of at the Rangers and Thrasher and bring home another cup, yes they lose Getzlaf and Beauchemin they get a pure left wing snipper in Kovalchuk and a setup guy for him in Drury

Atlanta loves this trade as well they lose Kovalchuk so what they get Francois Beauchemin, Petr Prucha, Ryan Getzlaf and Mark Mitera they can build a team around that.

But the Rangers now they get bent over a pole spanked by an old man and hung by a rope. they get Todd Marchant and Colby Armstrong for Chris Drury and Petr Prucha i dont think that is enough for the Rangers to trade Prucha. If they did this trade they would lose their hope of being a contender in my mind if this trade went through the Rangers who currently sit 4th on my Stanley Cup ranking (behind the Wings, Habs, and Pens) drops to atleat 10th I would have to rank them lower than Phoenix

In case ur wondering my top ten Stanley Cup Rankings look like this:
Wings
Habs
Pens
Rangers
Sharks
Hawks
Ducks
Oilers
Pheonix
Caps
