I am not even a Thrasher fan, but you have got to be kidding. Seriously (I am not a homer b/c I am not even a Thrasher fan), you better start with Thorton + 1st and go from there.

The Bruins nor any other human in their right mind would give away the dynamic in a Joe Thornton alone (Huge 2 way Center) for a pesky egotistical Ilya Kovalchuk (Small speedy forward) This is the Eastern conference ladies, ask yourselves who you'r rather have.

Ilya is 6'3" 230, hardly small. But I would agree that adding a first along with Thornton is a bit silly.

Ilya for Thornton straight up, I wouldn't do it.

Kovalchuk has a lot more value than Thorton hence me adding the 1st round pick.

Thornton for Kovalchuk straight up is in the ballpark of fair value.

As a Bruins fan I wouldn't do Kovalchuck for Thornton straight up.

As much as I like Ilya, I really don't think I'd trade Joe for him...Ilya is a goal scorer and thats it. Joe plays amazing hockey at both sides of the ice. Ilya=Pavel Bure x2

Kovalchuk is my favorite player, but a good center is worth more than a good winger. Thornton for Kovalchuk doesn't make much sense for anyone. Sampson and the picks wouldn't be enough, though. Kovy is one of a kind. He only gets traded if he doesn't want to play in Atlanta anymore, or if he gets too expensive, which hasn't happend yet.
