Is the dealin' done?
Morris might follow Skoula out of Denver
By Adrian Dater
"I'm a little confused as to why Lacroix wanted two of the same kinds of defensemen in successive days. Boughner and Kurt Sauer both are stay-at-home, rugged D-men who won't add much at the offensive end. Assuming everybody's healthy for the playoffs, that gives the Avs seven defensemen (Rob Blake, Adam Foote, Derek Morris, Karlis Skrastins, Boughner, John-Michael Liles and Sauer). Who will sit in the playoffs? It would be hard to justify sitting any of them. Does that mean Lacroix might deal one of them for, let's say, a backup goalie or a big forward? I think that's possible.
I wonder if Morris might be dealt for a good forward? Morris has logged five goals and 26 points in 61 games, well below his offensive output of last season. With Blake out lately, Morris hasn't stepped up offensively, at even strength or, more important, on the power play. Morris needs to get going, otherwise he might be sent packing."
Well, let's hear it.
The Avs basically need a back-up veteran goaltender, a big forward who can crash the net and score goals and a replacement on defense for Morris.
Could Morris be used in a deal to acquire Gonchar?
I think that might be a very real possability, gonchar for morris would be an offer the caps would be very hard pressed to walk away from. both teams could be better for this deal, Morris would fit in better with the caps youth movement. But to awnser the question. Derek Morris for Ryan Smyth????
I think people read too much into that stuff. Who will sit? Probably John-Michael Liles since he's a rookie. He played well this year but you want veterans in the playoffs if you're to have a shot at the cup. Plus what's the problem with depth? If any of the 6 regular Dmen get injured during the last portion of the season or during the playoffs, somebody will need to step up and fill the void, and having to call up a youngster from the AHL might spell trouble in such a case. I don't see Lacroix dealing Morris at all.
From Montreal however if he was made available, I'd offer Rivet (rough veteran 2-way blueliner with leadership abilities), Garon (solid back-up/future #1 goalie) and Bulis (excellent 2-way player with size and speed, can fill in with any role, from 1st line to 3rd. He'd add a new dimension to Colorado's 3rd line that's for sure). Morris would be a valuable top-4, but most importantly right-handed, to play top minutes and take away the pressure on Komisarek and Brisebois who are either not ready or not able to fill that role. Picks and prospects could be added to even out like always.
It seems a bit far-fetched. It took PL 3 years to ship Skoula out and now Morris is supposed to be traded because he hasn't been fantastic in the PP the last two weeks?
I can see both Sauer and Liles sit in the playoffs and with Blake/Foote having nagging injury problems a solid #7 will be needed. Trading Morris would just lead to McAllister being #7 again and nothing has been gained.

How about no way Why the hell would PL trade Morris for Craig Rivet? We got rid of our puck poise guy why would we add another one. What about Garon the whole point of acquiring a goalie is to have a VETERAN goalie for the playoff not a guy who lets 3 goals on 11 shots like saturday and who has no playoff experience. And at last Bulis is kind of ok but we need a defensive forward we have enough guy on the team who can score so i'll pass. Finally i don't want to trade Morris because he's having an average year. He's one of my favorite d-man on the team and after dealing Drury for him I don't want to trade him for a veteran backup goalie who we don't even know if he will do well or another defenseman like Gonchar Come on PL we have enough depth at the blue line trade McAllister but don't touch at Morris
Kolzig, Carter, and Witt for Morris... as a Caps fan, I think I'd be in favor if McPhee swung that deal. As for the Rivet, Garon, and Bulis proposal, Lacroix would never consider that one.

How 'bout you re-read what I wrote and realize Craig Rivet is actually a throw-in in this proposal to somewhat minimize the lost of a right-handed Dman?

Good point can't argue on that one, never said it was the best case scenario for the Avs either and frankly, I've already seen better proposals than mine in this thread from an Avs stand point (for example I don't think PL could pass if he was offered Kolzig, Witt and Carter for Morris).

That, on the other hand, is a pretty weak argument, if an argument it really was.

And what do you think Bulis is exactly, if not a defensive forward?
