As a Caps fan, I'd give up pretty much anything on our roster for Morris. Is Gonchar straight up fair value or do we add more? Witt + Kolzig + whatever else you want?
D-Mo is what the rebuilding Caps need. A young defenseman with upside. Even though he does have a fair sized contract, it's not unmanageable.

I think Colorado would want Semin and Wsh's 2nd in '04
i cant believe we are seriously talking about trading morris... WTF???
the avs finally and i am mean finally get some depth on the blueline and lacroix is going to deal our best young dman, dater is tool
like other have said it will be either sauer or liles getting the press box depending on whether granato feels we need a stay-at-home(sauer) or rushing(liles) #6,
the guy has struggled but so what, he showed enough last year to not deal him for a backup and a rugged power forward.
having said that i saw 2 proposals that would work if lacroix felt the need to deal morris:
something along the lines of biron, pyatt and zhitnik/mckee or kolzig, carter, gonchar/witt for morris plus something to balance out the trade.
however i can not see morris being dealt at this point in the season when blake, foote and boughner have all missed significant time during the season and clark and macillister incapable of playing solid 10min/game in the playoffs if need be.
morris is not leaving the avs unless lacroix has a master plan that i for one do not see
In general, I have to agree that Lacroix is only stocking up for a deep playoff run, expecting one or more defensemen to go down with injuries, as is common. To think he will trade one just because he has more than six capable of starting is jumping the gun a bit.
ummmm... am i the only one who sees morris as the avs top d in a couple of years? hes running the power play of argueably the best o team in the league. they have no top notch d prospects - only 3-7 types. why on earth would they trade derek morris? i know this is only in fun, but i cant believe no avs fans are on here ripping the very notion of him being traded. i would think hejduk, morris, and tanguay are the closest thing to younger untouchables the avs have. lets not get too caught up in the cup run here, this team has serious issues in a season or two....thats why morris is there in the first place. HE is the future d core of the avs, especially now that skoula is gone. morris isnt going anywhere - liles or mcallister would go first, and boughner is a ufa after the season. morris is they're most important d-man when blake is out (especially if foote is hurting)...and you're going to trade him? 2 days ago the avs desperately needed d depth, they acquire a 6 and 7 guy....now trade morris? wow. i know again this is only in fun, but im suprised dater even printed it.
The Avs basically need a back-up veteran goaltender, a big forward who can crash the net and score goals and a replacement on defense for Morris. Offers?
what about something along the lines of:
Col: Leetch, Dunham, & Simon
NYR: Morris, Ballard & a 1st
Taylor Pyatt,Jay McKee,Henrik Tallinder,Ryan Miller and Curtis Brown
For
Derek Morris
Mckee is always injured,Miller has been torched twice and won't be this Vezina winner we proclaim him to be,Brown will be a UFA,Tallinder's a 5 at best and Pyatt...blows.

Pointing out how each player sucks really makes this deal inviting.

A bit of an overpayment, don't you think?
And how exactly do you condemn Miller based on 2 games??
And how exactly do you condemn Miller based on 2 games??
I am taking in value to what other teams see,not what the player is worth to us.
Jay McKee-McKee is a #4 d-man now, possibly higher. The problem is,he is suffering from Rhett Warrener syndrome. He gets hurt constantly and is getting a little inconsistent this year.
Henrik Tallinder-Tallinder is a reliable d-man but he is nothing to write home about.I really don't see him being more then a number 4.Henrik also has limited offense.
Ryan Miller-I do think Miller will be a NHL goalie but not an elite one.If we were serious about acquiring Morris,we would have to include Miller.I wouldn't trade Miller just for the hell of it,but he is the biggest bargaining chip we have.(Kalinin and Vanek are untouchable)
Curtis Brown-Brown will be a UFA at the end of the year and we save a little bit of payroll.
Pyatt-I really don't care about explaining about Pyatt because no matter what I say I get bombarded about how Pyatt is the next Bertuzzi, and that Pyatt is the hardest working Sabre. When you are getting 15 minutes a game with quality linemates and can't score in 16 games, you aren't very good.
Pyatt,Tallinder,McKee,Brown and Miller for Morris I would do.Maybe they can throw in Dan Hinote.
