I remember grey cup 1977 (67000) and blue monday (46000), the Big O can be a very loud place. IMO if we fill it up with Habs fan it will be just incredible, the only bugger will be to get in and out of there.

The Rangers are in town that night.

Just an awful idea.

AWFUL.

I can't believe this. Something as rare as the 100th anniversary of a franchise should not be celebrated by playing a game in a dump of a stadium the majority of the city hates.

That is a Friday, Habs rarely play Friday games, more likely the 5th IMO.

no matter how bad the idea it makes great business sense. 80,000 Habsfans under one roof will be a sight to see. If 21,000 can blow the roof of the Bell Centre i can harldly wait to hear 80,000 roar at the big O.

80.000 tickets to sell vs 21,000 the idea isnt a bad one .

It is absolutely frustrating (and funny at the same time) that half of the posters on this thread can't read: THERE WON'T BE ANY ROOF WHEN THE GAME WILL BE PLAYED! It will be an outdoor game.

Weird venue but looks like the roof would not be on so it would be an outdoor game of sorts.

Given that HFboards are English-language boards, and the link posted is in French it's really not surprising. As an anglophone, I find it frustrating when french links are posted without a summary or a translation.

I definitely want to check this game out. I still can't believe I've never been to a Habs game in Montreal. Big O is kind of grimy but this is a special occasion. Perfect timing too, after fall classes are done and before exams start up.

I feel we **** too much on the Big O.

It's the biggest venue we got in Montréal and it will be fine.

I know I'd like to go.

Maybe not the best place for it. But to have something of this size, I'm not sure there are many other alternatives to the Big O.

Edit: Macbeth beat me to it.

When I, and possibly others, clicked on the link soon after the thread was posted all that came up was the paragraph long headline and the picture of the Big O. There was no text regarding the fact that the roof would be off. A picture with the roof on and french text may have also tripped up others. Thanks for clarifying though, I'm more happy with the idea now.

Other than the fact that it cost way too much, what is there to hate so much about it?

I for one think the idea is a great way to have as many fans as possible to see their team on its 100th birthday and make it a big party. IMO, better than just yet another ceremony with old timers and a video montage...

I think it should be a yearly event. It would be good money wise for the team and it would be a unique game during the season with one crazy crowd. That would be an awesome game, it could really be an happening. I hope they have tailgate and stuff for the game as well

There still isn't. All it says is that there's the possibiliy to replace the roof sometime after the grey cup in November '08.

Where to begin?

Among the reasons:

- The Olympic Stadium is 30+ years old.

- It's a big bowl of concrete. It's ugly.

- The place is cold, used up and sterile. The Bell Centre is a royal palace compared to it.

- There's a good chance the vast majority of the fans there would have a terrible view of the game.

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/259121.html

With the roof they aren't allowed to hold events in Olympic Stadium from December 1st to March 31st...

You've been there; there's no way they could get ice to freeze with the roof on. No ventilation.

All I know is is that the Habs opponents better be the Leafs that night as there's no other opponent other than maybe Detroit that deserves to be on the other end of the rink to commemorate the Habs 100th than the Leafs as our rivalry roots runs deeper than any other rivalry in NHL history and I dare say--in sports history.

Um yeah, except our rivalry with Boston is bigger, and fuelled by more hate, at least among the players. And way more history.
