It's a calculated risk on Lombardi's part. If Stoll doesn't fit as the #2 center Brian Boyle is waiting in the wings. If both Stoll and Handzus regain their form after tough injuries the Kings are very deep down the middle.

Kopitar, Stoll, Handzus, Boyle

It's a fair deal for Stoll considering it eats up 3 years of his UFA status.

I think Stoll will do fine centering Frolov and Boyle or Purcell....

This deal is great if Stoll can put it back together. I have a funny feeling that he and Frolov will have some pretty good chemistry. Frolov is good at digging out and protecting the puck and putting it right in his linemate's wheelhouse. And you know what happens when Stoll get a perfect pass right in his wheelhouse.

Guy has to feed Rachel Hunter, he needs all the money he can get.

A bit risky I would say. Stoll hasn't earned that kind of money since his injury.

She'll be feeding him regardless of this contract.

I think this will either turn into a very very good contact or a very very bad contract

Hopefully for Stoll, he turns it around.

Broken stick and a shot 5 feet wide?

But seriously, Stolls big howitzer is mostly only effective on the PP when he has time to wind it up, you don't see it all that much when he is playing 5 on 5. The guy had 3 even strength goals last year, and 1 of them was an empty netter. And its not like he didn't get the chance to play with guys who can pass the puck. He had chances with Nilsson at the start of the year, and a lengthy stint with Hemsky at the end of the year.

Hopefully Stoll is healthy now. A healthy Stoll is worth that type of $.

I see Stoll thriving in LA. Plus, LA is a great team to sign a long-term deal with right now, they're going to emerge in the next few years much like the Penguins. Getting rid of Cloutier and Crawford is a big addition by subtraction in itself.

Wouldn't those two be more considered goal-scorers rather than set-up guys?

Notat all, Nilsson and Hemsky are money play makers.

Honestly, my guess is that Lombardi is banking on getting a steal of a contract later on. If it pans out, he'll look like a genius. If it doesn't (and the suckage continues), then we'll land Tavares or Hedman (and he'll look like a genius!)

/shrug
Lets take a look back:

Kings win a meaningless 2nd to last game against San Jose - miss Stamkos by percentage points

Kings win a meaningless season finale, wind up with Hickey instead of Turris

What will happen?

Toronto will beat out the Kings on the last day, the Kings will lose the lottery to St Louis and wind up picking 3rd. Dean will then trade that pick for the 8th pick and some early 2nd rounder.

And the Kings will go 50 years without winning the Stanley Cup.

Edit: Mods, it's not *****ing, it's truth. As a lonnnng suffering Kings fan can attest

Stoll was healthy last year, he played 81 games, including the last stretch of the season paired with Hemsky and Penner on the top line.

I think you need to watch the Oilers more friend. Nilsson and Hemsky are about as close to a pure playmaker one can get. Both can dangle, and both can score, but they are largely playmakers, to the extent that Oiler fans often get frustrated when they pass up on a strong scoring chance to try and make the perfect pass.

I wouldn't call him healthy when he thought he was one hit the head to being a bowl of jello.

You can look at it as he held back all year for a new contract or you can look at it as he should be ready to get back in it with a new contract.

Who knows.

Ok, I live in Pittsburgh, don't watch the Oilers, and don't follow them. That's why I asked a question.

Some of you seriously need to untwist your panties.

it is nice to see him signed, if not just to know he will be there in training camp, but to get us closer to the floor and stop everyone from making stupid proposals with there high price garbage as well as to keep our own pesimists from linching Lombardi

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's a little funny that you didn't know Hemsky was a playmaker since he has the well known reputation of passing when he should shoot but Nilsson isn't very well known so it's understandable that you would be unaware of his style of play.

As for Stoll....it's a risk but I got a good feeling about him bouncing back. I know two periods isn't the best time frame to base my opinion on but whatever. I found that last season he played scared. He was afraid to receive a big hit. He just didn't look like himself out there. Finally in the last game of the season Staios was shooting the puck up ice and nailed Stoll in the side of the head. He had to get stitches on his ear. Now the Oilers have been mathematically eliminated and he has a chance to finally pack in the season from hell but he decides to return to the game and he scores the game winner which eliminated the Canucks from the playoffs. He won the faceoff and scored with his big shot from the point. He showed a lot of heart in that game and looked like the old Stoll that was talked about as a potential captain of the Oilers. Hopefully that Stoll will return next season. He's a likable guy that you want to see do well.

Video of that game....there is also a good example of Pitkanen's vision on the PP for Carolina fans that are interested.

Stoll was a good pro in Edmonton. Had a bad year last year and got a surprising amount of money considering that. Klowe probably didn't want to move him but got a good player out of it. Good luck to him as long as it is not at our expense.
