Peter Maher & Mike Rogers sign 5-year extension with the Fan 960

Both officially signed to a 5-year extension today, as per the Fan 960.

5 more years of Peter Maher, can't go wrong with that.

THey might as well just give Maher a lifetime contract, we all know he deserves it.

Perhaps Sportsnet could just buy the radio feed as well so they could scrap their useless commentators.

As for Richards, I like him, he's everything a morning guy should be: biased, rude and entertaining because of it.

Lol, he said Mike ROGERS. Fan 960 color commentator. Which is good, because he knows his stuff.

One of the best for sure. Good to see Peter and Mike both signed on for quite awhile.

I like Mike Rogers because he honest and tells it like it is but his "all's ya gotta do, Pete" every 2 minutes kind of get on my nerves.

yah i know tell me about it...

"alls you gotta do is look at the way..." etc etc....that is annoying...

I for one LOVED when it was Peter Mahr and Doug Barkley...

However I think that Mike Rogers has evolved into a better colour guy. At first he seemed to toe the PR line a little much...a "yes man" as it were...

But I think the last few years Rogers has grown and developed and is better at his job and more objective which is refreshing...

and I hate to say something mean, but I can't stand that "BOOMER"....Dean Molberg character....bleh...

Oh he's just so wishy washy...

One day he'd say that Favre was definetly going back to Green Bay and a day or two later he'd say there was no chance. ...and he'd say these things like it was the only opinion he'd ever had....

He just seems some how fake...like he's a computer generated talk show host....

Back to the original topic, Peter Maher's Flames at 5 comes back next tuesday!

I do, however, like how this has evolved into a FAN 960 discussion. Rob Kerr and Chumbucket Boomer make my afternoon when they argue about things that have nothing to do with hockey. I think it's hilarious when Rob Kerr starts screaming about something totally unrelated to sports. It's good, cheap entertainment. I think the most annoying person on the FAN is Dave Rowe and his motorsports crap. I think Rick Lafitte is really underrated and has good opinions and knowledge about hockey but lacks charisma.

I very much agree with that.

I love hearing Boomer's rants on Peter Forsberg's bad foot and how much he hates the Riders.

I love Rob Kerr. He's great. No real qualms there at all. I mean the odd time he might be a little annoying...but for the most part he's great...Very educated, very objective...very in the know...Rob is great.

I've called into Overtime a few times...Rob is "the flames" insider. Well him and Peter Maher...

I like Boomer and Kerr together, just not Boomer with Rick.

On topic, I'm really happy that Maher is back.

Yah I'll concede that Boomer is easier to handle when Rob is on the air with him. But that has more to do with Rob then Boomer...

Also I've heard a few times where Rob gets mad and frustrated with Boomer...and I sense that Boomer has somehow robotically adapted to being a somehow better or seemingly better broadcaster when Rob is around because he doens't want to look as stupid...

I find when Rob is working with Boomer Rob is one of 3 phases:

1. He seems to enjoy their dialogue.
2. He doesn't enjoy their dialogue but attempts to put up with him and be the bigger man for the sake of the program.
3. He can't handle Boomer being some fake wishy washy broadcaster and get's really short tempered with him.

I find most often 2 and 3 are going on. And when Rob is genuinely happy and having a good day then 1 sometimes occurs...

Peter Maher, the only thing that made my year in Calgary liveable.

May not be a Flames fan, but you have to respect Maher.

Yah Peter is a legend.

I fear though with Peter getting old(Does anyone actually know how old Peter Maher is) that this may be his last contract....I don't want to think about this...

But if and when Peter ever retires, i better get atleast a 5 year warning so that I can realign my life accordingly...

I mean Peter doesn't just up and retire....so we better know if this is his last contract or not...

How old is Peter Maher?

Because he signed this 5 year deal...and I wonder if that is the end. I hope not as his retirement will single handedly destroy lives.

I tried doing an internet search and couldn't figure out how old he is. Some other Peter Maher comes up on wikipedia as being born in 1960, but Peter is way older then that...

I wonder and hope that this is NOT Peter's last five years...If it is his last 5 years it's like being on death row for 5 years..

Oh you might think I am blowing this out of proportion, but this is PETER freaking Maher we are talking about here...

okay call me bi-polar and tear this thing apart...

He's 60 years young.

And yeah, he's a legend and the absolute best at what he does. I can't even imagine having to someday hear someone else call Flames games. They'll have big shoes to fill, that's for sure. But that's not even something I want to think about now. I'm glad to see him signed for another 5 years. There's a lot of YEAH BABY!!!'s still left in that man.

Oh, 60 years old is nothing....sweet. The only thing is all that travel. Maybe eventually he can just do all home games from Calgary and road games he can do somehow from like Flames Central or something...

Peter should go until he is 70-75 IMO...I hope he does anyway, innocent lives depend on it...

I mean how old is Bob Cole??? Didn't he just finally retire? He's gotta be in his mid 70's
