Bob Gainey on Roy and other topics

Very good interview .. here is just a sample:

On Patrick Roy's possible future with the team

-Gainey said Roy is learning the responsibilities of management with the Remparts, and when the day comes that the Canadiens need a new coach or general manager, Roy's name could certainly be among the candidates. He described the Canadiens as a family and said like any family, there are rifts between members. But rifts heal and families find their way back together.

Gainey is a very smart and diplomatic man and I love him as our GM.

Gives you a good idea that they are not planing for many kids joining this team the next year or two. Which explains all the long-term NCAA projects they have drafted the last two years as Hamilton will get congested with young talent the next 2-3 seasons it looks like.

To me he was talking mostly of top 6 forwards or top 4 defenceman type guys, cause There are a couple guys that may make the team in the next 2 yrs. Stewart, Valentenko, Carle and D'agostini who could become a good 3rd line winger with a scoring touch one day soon.

Oh, and Emelin and or Korneev may come over next year and challenge for a spot. Not holding my breath though.

That was fun to read. I particularly found interesting the following comment:

Quote:
Gainey chose Washington because it was the team less likely to be a threat to the Canadiens after acquiring Huet.
I'm truly wondering who the other team was and what the offer was for Huet's services...

Ottawa was the first team that came to my mind.

Sounds like we're gearing up for trading picks and prospects for some impact players. Unless Sundin signs (doubt it). About time, especially on D. We need another take charge Dman and a scorer.

I thought the same thing too when I read it.

Makes sense, a team with goaltending issues and no clear cut starter, in the same division and on a possible collision course with the team for the playoffs (not to mention competing for the division title at the time).
