Just drunk and thinking out loud here, but...

Seattle would be the most incompetent organization in all of professional baseball -- for an NFL comparison, I'm talking Oakland Raiders-level incompetency (in terms of managing talent) -- if it traded Ichiro. I'd be shocked if it happened. That said, it didn't stop me from entertaining the thought of the possibility of bringing Suzuki here. You'd think Gillick and his connections, even though he's leaving after this season, would at least implore the Phillies' next GM to explore the possibility of prying away from the Mariners (who should be in full rebuild mode and get what they can for Ichiro while he still commands good value in return) the soon-to-be 35-year old, who will still probably be a .300+ hitter and quintessential leadoff man for at least another three seasons. That's basically the window for this current Phillies team to win a World Series, by the way. I'm not saying it would happen, it's certainly a pipe dream. Still, I wonder how a player like Ichiro would work out here in the post-Gillick era? You'd have to think he'd be happy to be the possible final piece of the puzzle for a team, especially if the team retained other Japanese players (or at least one). Right?

I'm sorry, but I can't resist...

1. Ichiro Suzuki (RF)
2. Jimmy Rollins (SS)
3. Chase Utley (2B)

I think it took me 45 minutes to write this.

I'm sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at that. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for this Phillies team to be the one that destroys them in the playoffs. I'm still holding out hope that this team has the resolve to get **** done this weekend and take care of the Nats at home (hmmm, this seems familiar). Sweep the ****ing series and don't even have not making the playoffs be a possibility. Maybe I'm being too optimistic?

Now, the question for fans looking ahead becomes, who would you rather face in the first round of the playoffs? The Dodgers (if the Mets win the WC) or the Brew Crew (if they win the WC)? In that case, let the Mets win the WC. Give me them Dodgers, and let the Mets get crushed by the Cubs.

I won't be concerned unless we lose tonight and the Mets win...at that point, get concerned. One thing we definitely have going for us is that the Fish are looking for blood. I would be shocked if the Mets swept.

While I understand the logic...you'd rather have Brewers. They're in an epic fail situation, their bullpen is in tatters...and they've been working their only consistent starter to the bone just to get to this point...and can barely beat the Pirates in a must win game.

I'll be curious to see how the weather is tonight in both Philly and New York and how that plays out.

Bottom line is that a playoff spot is completely in the Phils control. Win this series against a AAA Nats team and they are in.

Charlie just went ****ing off in the ninth inning. Out there for a solid 4 minutes arguing a call. He wouldn't leave.

Anyway, huge win tonight. Howard is sure making a hell of a case for MVP. Lidge came on in the 9th and flat out was nasty.

Magic number: 2

Wasted energy on Manuel's part IMO. There was just no reason to go off like that at that stage of the game.

I would agree that Howard is making a case for MVP, but I just don't know if the voters will look past his .250 average, especially when you have a guy like Pujols who leads the league in average and has very good HR and RBI numbers.

Phils win, Mets lose.

Magic number is now 1 if I'm correct.

Could not agree with you more on both points. The game was 8-4 in the top of the 9th inning. He didn't need to go out there and try to show up the umpires, it was highly unneeded.

Also, Howard's average is going to kill him when going up agaisnt a guy like Pujols for MVP. He has 154 less strikes outs than Howard does and his batting average is a full 100 points higher. However, Howard does lead the league in Homer's and RBI's and hopefully he will also be doing something else Pujols won't be doing. If you know what I mean.

Tim McCarver is on my stream.

EDIT: Oops, when I read Timmeh, I automatically thought Panaccio for some reason. We can enjoy him together then.
