What a ridiculous signing that was by Gretz & friends.
I'm tellin ya, that team has made some of the poorer decisions, financial & otherweise, in the whole NHL.

Savage who has been struggling with injuries during his time in Phoenix has 2 years remaining on a contract totalling just over $7 million US.

I got that off of Sportsnet

Easy tiger! To get Savage was a awful one because he never played with a decent center, because he has been injuried every 5 games and because the contract he was given was too generous... We all agree.
They make the worst moves? Hum, yes, the Gratton-Briere trade looks awful. But Briere wasn't working out in Phoenix and his attitude was exasperating at times. He has had a great month in Buffalo, good for him, good for his team but so far none of the Coyotes or the Sabres are in playoffs position.
But was the Tkachuk trade awful? No, we got Nagy and Taffe for him. Not so bad.
The Comrie deal is a good one too.
Is that team a joke? Well, please don't judge a very small market team 6 months before a very tough CBA. Yep we are dumping salary, but we are just getting prepared for the new rules. If many of the fans in the NHL would get rid of the Coyotes, none of the financial experts tip the Yotes as one of the franchise what would go bust in case of a long lockout. Two years ago, the franchise was nearly gone to Portland. The franchise is still in Arizona and despite what people with instant judgement (and a bit of tunnel vision) say, we will come out better after the CBA that we are before.

Ok.

I haven't watched him play with the Coyotes.
I remember him playing well with the Habs...
Would the Habs fans want him back?
I don't remember how they felt when he got traded, so I don't want to jump into conclusions...

I don't know... I'll say no because of his salary.

If he didn't have another year on his deal, I wouldn't mind the Kings picking him up.

The Blues might pick him up. How do people think he'd do next to Weight or Demitra?

Good move by the Yotes. They don't want to pay this guy's salary so what do they do? They wait until hes playing pretty good and then place him on waivers. This way, someone might actually take a chance on him.

However...I still don't think anyone will take a chance on him.

Just as long as someone picks him up, usually when a player that has a high salary reaches waivers, their team wasn't able to give them away, I assume the same is true with Savage and the Coyotes.

By all means, don't let us stop you from putting a claim in on him though, it'd save us over $4.5 million in a buyout.

I'm thinking no one is interested and the Yotes aren't interested in picking up any of that salary in a trade...Yotes are hoping someone saves them from a buyout or having to trade him and eating a portion of that salary.

Since October has long since passed, I don't think he'll do well with anybody.

You know, before this year, I felt Barnett was the worst GM in hockey.

However, I think the man is learning, and is slowly picking things up. Let's not forget, this was one of the most successful NHL player-agent in the history of the NHL. He's clearly intelligent enough to know which players to have as clients.

I like some of the recent moves they've made. While I'm indifferent towards Comrie, Burke wasn't going to be a huge asset to them any longer. They are bringing along prospects such as Sjostrom and Taffe along the right away, and Doan and Nagy are being given the room to be the superstars they can be. Next up is Mara, whom I'm expecting a big year from next year.

He's not great yet, Barnett, but he's getting better.

you may see a team now look to deal with Phoenix by sending a contract the other way to help make up the difference and make it more reasonable for the other team. By taking this step, Phoenix is basically saying "bring us your offer".

He has been decent, but not as good as that huge contract he has. I think he is the highest paid player on the Yotes. And that is just wrong.
