Ovechkin's physical game is more consistent, and he's more durable. Selanne actually had a physical game, but it was not always there each game or shift, and he was never the same kind of warrior when it came to the small, dirty work like board battles. But upon remembering the way the Flash simply outskated defenders, I realize how apt this comparison is, physical game notwithstanding.

Right now I would say Selšnne at his best was better. In a year or two I would probably vote Ovechkin unless something happens to him.

as much as I like selanne; AO back in 92-93 season would break all kinds of records. Maybe over 90 goals.

Selanne did have that 70+ goal season, but Ovechkin is the Russian Bear. He hits everything and can score. Dare I say he's a power forward?

And yes I'm definately old enough to remember when Selanne came into the league. The race between him and Mogilny was pretty fun

Ovechkin has yet to dominate as Selanne did in his prime. However, it is most likely that AO will reach that level soon enough and probably surpass it.

Selanne literally skated around and through dmen like they were standing still. Unfortunately his early prime was cut short, whether due to lingering injury, that Peca hit, whatever.

But to say that AO is better now than Selanne was then is very short sighted.

Ovechkin's latest season is better than any of Selanne's, including 1993.

Context is important, and 1993 was a ridiculously high scoring season. Over 20 players topped 100 points that season, compared to 2 this past year. 76 goals didn't even get Selanne an outright lead in the goal scoring race that year. He tied Mogilny (who played fewer games). His 132 points was only good for 5th in league scoring. Selanne was/(is?) a great player, but there's a reason he never came anywhere near that season again. During his prime he was a 50 goal guy, and scoring in the 97,98,99 seasons was pretty much the same as it was last season when Ovechkin put up 65 with very little help.

Selanne, and one only knows what his career numbers would have been had he not suffered that horrific injury which cost him 1/2 his speed so early in his career.

Ovechkin is still developing though and already has a nasty physical game. Its close.

Ovechkin, no doubt.

It was a different, high scoring era. Think about this: Selanne tied with Mogilny for goals that season. After Ovechkin's 65 goals this past season, the next in line was Kovalchuk at 52. That's dominant.

Ummm, I did not say this.

And to stunt any further misquoted ramblings, Ovechkin does dominate, in his own way.

Ovechkin doesn't get to face Tim Chevaldae or Allan Bester.
