OT-Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

Anyone planning on going to Vancouver for any of the olympic ice hockey games??? My friend and I are going to really try to go and get a hotel in Vancouver, or the surrounding area, to witness some of the awesome Olympic hockey games. I'm just worried that there won't be much space in the hotels due to priority going to Olympic officials, athletes, athletes families etc, and also the prospect of hotels jacking up their prices during these times. It would be such an amazing experience though coming all the way from Rhode Island to see some tremendous hockey. I'm just trying to get a feel from some of you guys and if you even think I would be able to find a hotel during that crazy time in Vancouver, even if I booked it as early as possible, over a year in advance. Any thoughts? Anyone in the Vancouver area of from wherever planning on going?

Tickets are going to be nearly impossible to obtain.

I'm lucky enough to live a 20 minute walk from GM Place. I would love to go. But as Hedberg already mentioned, I have no idea how I will get or pay fo tickets.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think many will be reserved for athletes, country officials, coaches, etc. And then the remainder will be released to the world population. Of these, most are available on a type of lottery system. To sum it up, I have got as good a chance of winning the lottery and buying a ticket on ebay, as I do getting tickets to any medal games.

Exhibition maybe.

One option would be to rent a home privately. There are a growing number of Vancouver-area home owners who are listing their homes (or rooms in their homes) for rent during the 2010 Olympic Games.
A couple sites to visit would be:

http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/vac/
http://rent2010.net/local-home-owners.html
http://www.rentatthegames.com/

Hope this helps!
Mark

Free boarding = Stanley Park. You can wash up, hunt and sleep for free.

LOL...no seriously, it's going to be rough.

I will definitely be trying to get tickets to one of the early Canada hockey games (I know I will have no shot at tickets for the later rounds )

I'm working out a deal with my school to study abroad in Vancouver for the Spring '10 semester. Funny how that works out.

I want to either work or volunteer at the Games.

The newspaper "24 Hours Vancouver" ran a story last week on Vancouverites offering their homes for rent during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Are they going to be outrageously expensive? Another question I have if anyone knows is will you even know what game you're buying? I cant recall if it was Italy or Salt Lake city, but I recall when tickets went on sale you could buy tickets for a ice hockey game on a date, but the teams were NOT announced (i.e. you might be buying Poland vs. Germany and you wouldnt know).

My wife and I have been planning this trip to the last three years. But with the economy so bad and the ticket prices way out there. There's no way we can go now. I was hoping for some type of main pass. Where you can one price for the two week event.

But they have broken it down into packages where you get to see four different events (1 game each) for $1,200.00. That is if I am reading this correctly. It just seems a little high. So there really might be a lot of tickets available.

Thankfully I'm a Canadian citizen so I'll be applying from the Canadian ticket pool (but will have the tickets shipped to a relative in Calgary). I'm hoping to attend the Opening Ceremonies as well as seeing some hockey and speed skating.
