Change Cola to White and toss in our 1st rounder and you got a deal.

Can we not play this game anymore? Proposals are fun as fans kick around hypothetical player values and make creative concessions to balance deals. This hasn't happened in a Gonchar thread for weeks. This one took a whopping 1 post to bring up the untouchable status of Colaiacovo; the accepted roadblock between any Gonchar to To proposal.

It's beyond unproductive at this point

how about NO, let the caps keep him and pay his 6 or 7 million he will get.

and then refuse to pick it up and let him walk as a FA.

This sucks royally for the Caps. None of these guys are bluechip prospects, and the first rounder will pretty much be a second. This is all they get for one of the top defenseman in the league?? I'd pass. Other teams could offer a much better package.

Coliacovo and Antropov, bare minimum.

If other teams can offer more then Kondratiev, Bell, White, and a 1st... then I don't want Gonchar.

- Kondratiev made the NHL at the age of 20 and is one of the top 5 prospects in the organization.
- Bell was the top junior defenseman in Canada last year.
- White's not as good as the other two, but he's a good prospect.

I think you need to look into the prospects a bit, all of them are pretty decent. Now, they're no Colaiacovo, nor Gonchars, but all can play a decent game.

My Offer would be: Kondratiev, Pilar, TOR 1st 2004, TOR 3rd 2004 for Gonchar.

Any more would be detrimental to the Leafs, and not worth doing. As the Fan 590 was saying today, if the Living room floor caves in (Toronto defence), why fix the dining room floor? (Toronto's offence). Gonchar would be great, but he doesn't address Toronto's problem.

The award Bell got is something I didn't know, I'll give him credit for that. But there's nothing special about Kondratiev making the NHL at age 20 - many other juniors beat him to the punch. White, well he brings nothing special to the table, so I don't see why Washington would be motivated to make this trade.

Bottom line: I just don't see why the Caps would trade their best defender, possibly one of the top five offensive defenseman in the league for a package that DOESN'T include a top, bluechip prospect. Colicacovo is that prospect. Antropov can even the deal, and even then I'm not sure that's enough. Gonchar is something special, so you'll have to give something that Washington actually wants to get him. Remember, the ball is in Washington's court.

There's nothing special about a 20 year old Russian defenseman making the NHL?

Toronto: Sergei Gonchar, Josef Boumedienne and Michael Nylander
Washinton: Carlo Colaiacovo, Matthew Stajan, and Tomas Kaberle

Reasoning: Should not be enough to ensure a Cup for Toronto, and will hurt them for years to come.

For what it is worth I heard Ron Maclean say on hockey night tonight that he heard Stajan and Steen for Gonchar. As a sens fan I love this deal because it would guarantee that we will be ahead of you for years to come. I say that if Ferguson makes that deal he should be shot. That is 2 of your top 3 youngsters, you can't deal them both.

That's not our fault blame Canada Post for that.

We'll make sure it's a nice one too with Pop-Up pictures and a funny Joke, we'll personally sign it with both teams players and managment you can sell it for twice what it was originally worth then.

we'll toss in Trevor Kidd too, he may suffocate inside the envelope but that's not our problem anymore.

Leaf fans,

The Caps will want Stajan or Colaiacovo. YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO GIVE UP ONE OF THEM. The Caps, or any other team, do not want Brenden Bell. You guys are almost as bad as my brother.
