ot: the new firefox

i generally hate "new version" downloads, like with winamp, aim, and browsers. i'd been putting off the new firefox one for a while, and today, figured to do it because i trusted them.

well, the new version looks like ie. i hate ie. i stopped using it for a reason. i tried to find older versions and they wouldn't work. please, tell me i'm not the only one who hates the new firefox.

you're the only one I know of that doesn't like FF3, I think it's awesome, way better than 2. Much faster and safer. I also quite like Google Chrome, it's super fast.

I'll switch when the Black Japan theme comes out for it.

I'm not much a fan either. The first thing that turned me off was that a particular extension or two that I use don't have a ff3 version yet (not Mozilla's fault, I'm aware), but there was something else I can't seem to remember. I'm not a fan of the awesome bar (is there a way to roll that back to the classic kind of thing?) either. I'm sticking with ff2 until ff3 or chrome get closer to the way I like things. It's slowish but it does the job I want it to.

I knew enough not to upgrade until they fix it. A friend of mine made that mistake and it constantly crashed on him, and in the end he down graded.

I'm still on two and I think it's awesome so I'm just not going to upgrade it.

I absolutely love it. Sounds like you just need to customize it more to your liking.

Get a new theme for sure. I use NASA Night Launch, which gives me a sexy black background. Also, grab WOT (web of trust), its a great little program that uses user votes on sites to see if its safe or has trojans or malware.

Not sure where all the problems are comming from, Ive yet to have it crash on me and Ive had it for awhile now.

Its ok, nothing spectacular. I'm really indifferent between 2 and 3.

i don't want to customize it to my liking. i don't use a browser for it to look pretty. all i want it to be is smooth and decent. viruses and spyware and the rest of the like haven't ever been a problem for me with firefox, and i don't think it's any faster than the older version.

i'm mostly pissed about how they dumbed it down (buttons, drop bar, menus, download box), which i'm sure was probably an effort to get more users who were accustomed to ie. it just looks stupid, and in turn, isn't as smooth to use.

Can I throw Google Chrome into the mix? Reviews? Reactions?

I like FF3 and would like it more if it would stop crashing for no good reason. Maybe it's because I use XP but that drives me nuts.

Probably true, but from what I can tell, FF3 and Chrome aren't much better. Excessive RAM usage is always going to be a problem when you let amateurs make the plugins. Besides, are you really doing so much while browsing that you can't spare the 50 extra megs it uses?

Chrome seemed like it really slowed down my entire computer. It wasn't taking up that much memory, but every time I run it, everything else starts getting sluggish.

Does anyone else who runs OSX+FF notice it get really screwy with flash stuff? Sometimes it just won't display on the screen for me.

I use Safari for the Mac normally and the few times it doesn't work for a particular site I use Camino.
