So did anyone else hear this? How would you feel about Lang as our #3 center?

4 years ago... sure. As it is, I'd rather try out Chipchura and try grabbing someone at the deadline.

For any freakin reason, I can't catch team 990 through my computer at work. So I didn't hear it.

what's the "fan990" anyways? Never heard of this station

Anyways, not that I think this will happen

but Lang at 4M/yr is pretty expensive for a 3rd line center...he's on his last legs but could probably contribute alot more than Smolinski did/could, but again, it's his salary that's a problem, although it is expiring at the end of the year

It's appealing because Lang is a RH centre and has in the past put up good numbers, especially when he played with Kovalev...but at this point in Lang's career, i'd rather look for solutions from within.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, the other forum where this is being reported also called it the fan990...

Unless Sundin suddenly has an epiphany about wanting to play for a contender, I'd hold off on signing anyone else before training camp. If 20 games in it becomes apparent that Chipchura can't handle the load then Bob can pull the trigger on a trade. I'm hoping Chipchura will entrench himself and any trading will be done from a position of strength and not panicky need.

I posted in that thread that it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. We need another center. Obviously Sundin would be perfect but if Gainey feels he's out of that race then Lang would be a decent option. Big, RH, last year of his contract and would probably come cheap in a trade. Scored 50+ points last year, which is more then Chipchura, Lapierre or Smolinski could hope to get this coming season.

I'm fine with making a move for Lang, especially for draft picks.

If Sundin is going to keep pissing around the pot, we need to make a splash and get a decent centre, Lang is a good enough option.

We can either have a great top-6, decent checking line, and a good energy line.. or a great top-9 with offensive capabilities and a very good fourth line.

We lack depth at the centre position (Lappy on the wing, Chipchura at centre would be a lot better) for this team. Lang is expensive, but for one season? Who cares..

a. kost - pleks - kovalev
tanguay - koivu - latendresse
higgins - lang - s. kost
lapierre - chipchura - laraque
begin, tko

OR

a. kost - pleks - kovy
tanguay - koivu - latendresse
higgins - chipchura - s. kost
tko - lapierre - laraque
begin, dandenault

Don't know if he's available but with the return of Nylander, I would prefer looking towards Kozlov than Lang.

OK, I think I know what happened.

Some team 990 emailer saw that on that forum (which was quoting a complete garbage poor man's eklund french version site)...and emailed it to the two kids who are replacing Marinaro during the summer at the team 990...and since there is NOTHING to talk about right now...they probably mentionned that rumor just for the sake of it. That addiction guy misunderstands it and thinks it's about to be a done deal.

Well Washington is over the cap, so he might be available. But he is relatively cheap at 2.5 million.

Unless Gainey received a confirmation that Sundin will not be headed our way, there's just no way we make a move now. Would you then imagine Sundin saying he's coming back and would've considered Montreal but now that we don't have enough cap space.....

I don't think Gainey is the best GM but there's no way he does that but again...unless he knows something we don't...

And again, I don't see Gainey even making a move before training camp even if we don't get Sundin. He'll let Lappy and Chip make a case for themselves.

Was just thinking that the fact the he's UFA next season, Washington might want to unload him now and receive something. They would still look fine at center without him with Backstrom/Nylander/Fedorov/Gordon.

Would not be horrible...I really like Lang actually. He almost won the scoring title just a few years ago...

But I don't believe this at all. Not even close.

I always liked Lang and I wouldn't mind having him for 1 year on the 3rd line replacing Smolinski.I would like to see Chipchura get that spot but it's not my decision..

Anyways I don't think this is true

We do need to bring a RH shot to our team. Thats a big need. We also need a center to play a offensive role on the top 3 lines and Lang also has size (even if he doesn't really use it).

After Sundin, he might be our only option available so I'm ok with it.

We would still have something close to 3 mil$ in cap space witch is more than enough to go through a season and be able to make a move at the trade deadline if needed.

You don't win with cap space and we have 7.5mil$ available still. Might aswell use it...

i think he would fit perfectly on our third line, and if he gets hurt, we have depth a 3rd line centre

these are very good stats for a guy past his prime...
I'd take him, not at any price but could suit very well for depth...

I think Lang would be a good option for Montreal, for a number of reasons.

- Gives us a Right handed shot
- Has size (dose not always use it but has it)
- Put up decent numbers last year offensively
- Last year of his contract
- Would give us an extra 3 million to add a player at the deadline

Sundin dose not even know he wants to play next year and I dont think Gainey can wait to much longer because if Lang goes to another team, and we lose out on Sundin then we dont get the offensive center we need to roll three offensive lines.

Sure why not, add him to the list of plan B players. (If Sundin doesn't sign)
