Garrioch: Habs consider Pens Eastwood for depth

According to Bruce Garrioch the Habs are considering picking up Mike Eastwood from the Pens for extra depth. I don't know how reliable Garrioch is but I do know that some posters don't consider him reliable -- but for the heck of it, anyone care if the Habs get Eastwood ?

I remember him from the Leafs years ago & he was a good agitator & could score the odd goal , if he's not too old I think he could be useful for the playoffs. I wouldn't give more than an auto'd 8x10 of Pierre Boivin for him though.

Well, I assume the price would be low (if they want more than a 7th rounder forget it!) and he could become useful as a fouth liner or insurance policy. Would also allow the habs to move Perreault, if so desired.

I don't like it we have 15 fowards anyways . We need 3rd pairing D or a top 6 winger .

, it's better than Perreault on the 4th line, and this could enable Bégin to move to the 3rd line permanetly, so we could hopefully get rid of Perreault and Juneau

Eastwood is more suited for the 4th line than Perrault for sure

One of few player in the league who may be better on the Draw than Perreault. Would definatly be more valiable on the 4th line than Yannic.

**Don't tell qwert, but he played with St. John's too. :p **

Gainey said awhile ago that he was looking for a 4th liner for "Futures". I think Mike Eastwood fits that bill perfectly.

Sure, why not. It'd be fun hearing the french announcers say Eastwood.

Guys, it makes sense.

He turns 37 this summer so it's definitely just a rent-a-player situation... but he's 6'3'' 215lbs which is size this team can surely use.

But the key that make me believe this rumor, is that he's the right-handed center Gainey was talking about... who can take important draws for the team when it's on the right side of the ice.
And that CJ wouldn't be scared to use in critical situations because he's small/slow/soft/a defensive liability like Perreault.

And yes, it would allow Bégin to move up to the 3rd line as well.

Eastwood? Sure why not. He won't cost more than a low pick, brings much needed size, is slow, but certainly not slower than Perreault, wins faceoffs (thank god we finally wouldn't have any excuse for putting Panic Yanic on that 4th line), he's right-handed and very good defensively. Not much left in the tank at 36yo mind you, but I'd take him any day ahead of Perreault and Kilger in the 4th line center role. Now I'd also like to see Begin moved to 3rd line duty permanently.

Since enforcers rarely play a regular shift in the playoffs, I think we could put a lineup on the ice that would look a bit like:

Bulis - Koivu - Zednik
Dagenais - Ribeiro - Ryder
Sundstrom - Begin - Dackell
Juneau/Kilger - Eastwood - Wardo

And while we're dreaming about trades, why not bring in that big Jeff O'Neill body to play with Saks and Zeder and move Bulis to the 3rd line?

I agree 100% a deal like this makes sense on every level, however, BG has to move Perreault/Juneau before doing this deal

very interesting

Eastwood for future considerations

Pittsburgh gets rid of him
Montreal gets a rent-a-player

suits what we need cheaply

I'd do it

get it done before the trade deadline and start getting rid of perrault, Juneau, etc

Eastwood would be a great addition on any team looking into the playoffs. However I'll continue to dream of O'neil until the Devil's snatch him up

they'd have to get rid of Perreault first, no trade before that!

My guess is that BG identified Eastwood awhile ago as a 4th line addition but was/is stalling in case something else becomes possible. My suspicion is that Calgary's solid season de-railed his plan to acquire Conroy. I've got no facts to back this up, just a hunch.

Eastwood would be a very good pick up. I'd imagine he could be had relatively cheaply. He has good size & speed, takes the body (plays physical although not tough), strong on d, and very good in the face off circle. If the habs land him, Perreault and Juneau would be effectively replaced by he and Begin - a definite upgrade on the lower half of the roster.

Perrault for Eastwood I think the Pens may use Perrault as their top flight center of the rest of the season at a resonable price science his salary is almost completely paid now .

I don't think they'd have any interest in Yannic. What would be the point? Even a seventh-round pick would be more appealing to the pens.

As for Eastwood, I suppose he'd be an upgrade over Juneau, but I'd set our sights a little higher.

Actually no. If they get Perreault he obviously won't change anything for them, but he would land them a 4th rounder when they lose him to free agency.
